The Survey Technician provides field and office support for boundary, topographic, and other land surveying projects. This is a developmental position designed to build practical surveying skills through hands-on experience under the supervision and guidance of a New York State Licensed Land Surveyor. Assist survey field crews in collecting accurate data for boundary, topographic, construction layout and other surveys. Operate data collectors, total stations, GNSS equipment, and any other surveying tools as trained and directed. Assist with setting survey control, locating physical features, property evidence, and gathering other field information necessary for boundary or topographic mapping. Maintain clear and accurate field notes, data files, and project records. Assist with the care, organization, and safe use of survey equipment and vehicles. Follow company safety procedures and project-specific requirements while working in the field. Assist with project setup and preparation of field packages using available project records and client correspondence. Perform deed, title, tax map, record, and other property research and assist with abstracting as directed. Download, organize, and process field data for use in survey mapping and project documentation. Prepare preliminary CAD drawings and mapping under the direction of surveying staff. Assist with maintaining organized electronic and paper project files. Provide general project support to licensed surveyors, survey technicians, and other office staff as assigned. Self-motivated, dependable, and eager to learn new skills and accept increasing levels of responsibility. Strong attention to detail, observation, precision, and accuracy. Ability to follow instructions, ask questions when needed, and apply feedback to future work. Professional and respectful communication with clients, coworkers, property owners, and the public. Ability to work collaboratively with both field and office staff. Willingness to learn new surveying methods, technology, software, and procedures. Ability to perform the essential functions of field surveying, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and traverse uneven, wooded, steep, or rugged terrain. Ability to safely carry and use surveying equipment and field supplies consistent with the requirements of assigned projects. Ability to travel to project sites and work in both field and office environments. Associate's degree or preferred, a minimum of three years of related field experience, but not required. Basic computer proficiency and or the ability to learn company software and technology. Proficiency with AutoCAD, including prior hands-on experience using the software to create and edit survey drawings. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability and willingness to work outdoors and perform a combination of field and office duties. Previous experience with total stations, GNSS equipment, data collectors, or other survey equipment. Basic proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.

Pay:
$50,000.00 - $69,000.00 per year
