  • Part-time, Full-time About us D&D Surveying and Planning LLC, and its prior corporate formations, has been operating in Northwest Colorado continuously since 1965, headquartered in Steamboat Springs, CO.

How does getting paid to hike/ATV the backcountry ranges of Routt County in the summer, and snowshoe in the winter months sound? Do you have a good sense of direction, and use a compass/hand held GPS unit during your recreational hikes? More surveyors in Colorado are retiring than are getting licensed; thus this current and projected shortage trend in the growing state of Colorado makes this opportunity a very smart, secure, recession resistant career choice with plenty of marketable up-skilling. Overall Requirements; We are looking for a clean cut, physically fit, rugged field technician IT skillset/comfortable with PCs Able to listen, learn, ask questions and take direction with our Party Chief on all of our land surveying projects. Currently lives in Routt or Moffat County (sorry you have to already be here) The right candidate(s) will be able to show work eperience in three or more of the following items: A super fit outdoors person, able to hike mountainous terrain 2-4 miles per day in off trail conditions Be computer and mechanically oriented Detail oriented, able to learn procedures Comfortable with math/handheld computers. Want to learn state of the art CAD and Surface programs (Autodesk) Have a clean driving record and valid license to be put on our insurance program Ideally have worked on a Survey crew in the past (ideal, not required) Our ideal candidate will want to grow within the company, learning all aspects of our highly technical equipment, self driven to teach themselves AutoCad as a basic mastery of the Survey Technician role in order to build their skill, value and hours within the firm. We will invest in your career progression for the for the employee who shows up 15 minutes early for the assigned shift start (ie on time) every day, is dependable (ie zero no shows or last minute call offs), enjoys the work, is highly productive, and masters the equipment with no damage. You have the opportunity to eventually become a top paid Party Chief, solve complex field problems, use state of the art GPS and Robotic equipment to assist in determining property boundaries using topography and other tools, and run your own crew. For the person who performs consistently with high productivity, high skill and low drama after a period of time, if you are interested; we will invest time and resources to help guide you over the years to study for, prepare, and obtain your NSPS Survey Technician Certification, CO State Surveyor In Training (SIT) designation, even all the way through to CO Professional Licensed Surveyor . All of these certifications / licenses carry increased monetary rewards, unlimited career and equity/ownership opportunities in Colorado, and are transferrable Nationwide if you so choose to move to a different locale in time.
Responsibilities:
Support the Party Chief in field operations. Hike up and down mountainous terrain (slopes up to 25%) over long distances (1 mile+) to reach hard to find property corners. Able to lift 20-30 pounds and transport it by hand 50-100 yards through rough terrain. Be able to read maps, use radio communication equipment, and deploy hand held tools to locate and set property corners. Load/unload gasoline powered Sport Utility Vehicles on Trailers, check vehicle fluids and tires, do in the field minor repairs (flat tires, etc) Travel to/from remote work sites using the company vehicle. Document field findings in note format. Perform fieldwork in remote areas of the outdoors. General Office work in poor weather; scanning documents, Computer Aided Drafting If you made it this far through this purposeful description you are halfway there!
