A Surveying or Mapping Technician works with surveyors and cartographers to gather data and create maps. Visits sites and records survey measurements and descriptive data. Selects data needed to create maps, including photos, aerial photos and satellite information, and helps produce and update maps that show boundaries or topographical information.

Marine Surveyor Duties:
Provide technical advice to clients, shipowners, and manufacturers on matters related to ship classification, design, construction, and maintenance. Stay abreast of the latest industry technologies, innovations, and advancements to ensure the application of cutting-edge knowledge in surveys. Ensure strict adherence to classification society rules, international regulations, and statutory requirements during surveys and inspections. Collaborate with regulatory bodies to interpret and apply new regulations as they arise. Act as a troubleshooter, addressing technical issues and challenges that may arise during surveys or in the course of client interactions. Provide practical and effective solutions to clients while maintaining compliance with classification standards. Implement quality assurance measures in survey processes to uphold the highest standards of accuracy and reliability in inspection reports. Participate in internal quality audits and contribute to the continuous improvement of surveying procedures. Educate clients on classification society processes, rules, and the importance of compliance for safety and operational efficiency. Develop and maintain standardized templates for inspection reports, ensuring consistency and clarity in reporting. Integrate digital tools for efficient documentation management and reporting. Collaborate with colleagues, both within the classification society and externally, to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices. Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to a collaborative work environment. Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with evolving industry standards, technologies, and best practices. Uphold the highest ethical standards in all professional interactions, ensuring integrity, transparency, and fairness in survey process. Remote work permitted from within Florida. Domestic travel required 60% of time and international travel 15% of the time for client site visits to conduct inspections and surveys.
Requirements:
Bachelors degree (or foreign equivalent) in marine engineering, naval engineering, naval architecture, or a closely related field; 3 years of relevant professional experience in the marine industry, including: 3 years of experience with ship engineering systems and machinery; 3 years of experience with marine management software programs; 3 years of experience with service surveys, including: new building, ship-in service, and equipment tests and compliance; 3 years of experience issuing certificates, reports, and status in compliance with rules and regulations.
