Job Description

A well-established and reputable civil engineering and design firm is seeking a Survey Field Technician to join its team in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia. Known for its multidisciplinary approach and commitment to innovation in infrastructure, transportation, and environmental solutions, this firm continues to support public and private sector projects with excellence across the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond. This role presents an exciting opportunity to be part of a collaborative survey department delivering critical data for design, construction, and land development initiatives. The Survey Field Technician will contribute to the success of survey operations through drafting, data processing, and field support. This position is ideal for individuals early in their surveying careers who are eager to gain experience in both office and field environments, with opportunities to work on a variety of infrastructure and site development projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with CADD drafting and prepare record and easement plats. Perform survey stakeout computations, cutsheet preparation, and post-processing of field-collected data. Support the creation of basemapping and drafting for topographic and boundary surveys. Draft as-built plans and prepare associated survey exhibits. Reduce and check field notes for quality assurance. Conduct deed and easement research to support property boundary determinations. Assist with computations of base files and layout information. Provide field support as needed on survey crews, with the potential for hands-on use of GPS and total station equipment.
Key Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. 1+ years of experience in land surveying or related field. Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil3D 2024 and Carlson Survey software. Interest in gaining experience with additional software platforms, including VDOT MicroStation, drone flight processing, and high-definition laser scanning. Willingness and ability to work in outdoor field conditions as required. Strong attention to detail and desire to develop technical proficiency in surveying.
Key Qualifications:
Solid computer literacy and eagerness to adopt new technologies. Demonstrated interest in the surveying profession with a willingness to grow within the field. Effective communication and team collaboration skills. Ability to read construction documents and interpret technical data is a plus. Valid driver's license.
