Job Description

Key Responsibilities Establish & maintain site control: Set jobsite benchmarks, control points, building grids, and control lines; tie control to the project coordinate system and perform closure/recheck procedures throughout construction.
Anchor bolt verification:
Survey anchor bolt locations, spacing, projection, and elevations before steel erection. Compare against contract documents and control, identify tolerances issues, and provide clear reports with coordinates, elevations, sketches/photos, and variance callouts.
Steel erection control:
Establish erection control lines, column lines, benchmarks, and critical offsets. Support layout and verify erected steel for alignment, plumb, elevation, and plan position.
Dimensional/tolerance verification:
Perform milestone and periodic surveys and document as-built vs. design conditions, control points, equipment/method, date/time, and out-of-tolerance conditions. Recommend appropriate actions such as hold, adjust, rework, or RFI.
Field coordination:
Work closely with superintendents, foremen, PMs, detailers, GCs, and survey teams. Coordinate surveys around critical picks and erection sequences and communicate issues early to prevent delays and rework.
Troubleshooting:
Help determine whether dimensional issues originate from anchor bolts, concrete, fabrication, erection, or survey control. Required Qualifications & Skills Field surveying or dimensional-control experience in construction. Strong knowledge of building grids, control lines, benchmarks, elevations, and construction layout. Ability to read structural drawings, anchor bolt plans, shop/erection drawings, RFIs, and field sketches. Proficiency with survey/layout instruments and workflows; total station or robotic total station preferred , GPS as applicable. Strong documentation skills, including reports, marked-up plans, sketches, coordinates/elevations, and photo documentation. Willingness and ability to travel regionally throughout the Southeast. Preferred Experience Structural steel erection and layout for columns, frames, and multi-level steel. Digital layout/as-built workflows, including CAD, point files, data collectors, and BIM field points. Familiarity with construction tolerance standards and survey responsibility coordination. Field Requirements Comfortable working on active construction sites and in outdoor Southeast conditions. Ability to walk jobsites, climb stairs/ladders, work around lifts/cranes, and access elevated areas as permitted. Ability to work from elevated platforms and, when required, walk steel structures. Familiarity with fall-protection requirements and safe work practices at heights. Flexible schedule for critical erection activities, including early mornings and occasional nights/weekends. Success in the Role Maintain reliable site control crews can trust. Identify anchor and dimensional issues before they affect steel erection. Verify steel is erected within AISC and project-specific tolerances . Deliver clear, consistent documentation that supports resolution, schedule, cost control, and dispute protection.

$30.00 - $50.00 per hour
