Southeast Region Position Overview We are seeking a Field Engineer with experience in construction surveying, dimensional control, and field layout to support structural steel erection projects across the Southeast. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with site control, total station/robotic total station, anchor bolt verification, structural steel layout, and dimensional tolerance checks . This role will work closely with field superintendents, foremen, project managers, detailers, and survey teams to ensure accurate layout, reliable site control, and proper steel erection. Key ResponsibilitiesSite Control & Field Layout Establish and maintain jobsite benchmarks, control points, and building grids/control lines for steel layout and erection. Tie site control to the project coordinate system and perform closure checks. Recheck and maintain control throughout construction, particularly after earthwork, concrete placement, site impacts, or other activities that may disturb established control. Anchor Bolt Verification Perform pre-erection surveys of anchor bolt locations, spacing, projection, and elevations. Compare field measurements against structural drawings, anchor bolt plans, and project control. Identify out-of-tolerance conditions before steel erection begins. Prepare clear verification reports including sketches, photographs, coordinates, elevations, and variance details. Steel Erection & Dimensional Control Establish erection control lines, column lines, elevation benchmarks, and critical offsets. Provide layout support for columns, frames, and key geometry transitions. Measure erected structural steel for alignment, plumb, elevation, and plan position. Assist in determining whether dimensional issues are related to anchors, concrete, fabrication, erection, or survey control. Tolerance Checks & Reporting Perform periodic and milestone dimensional tolerance checks.

Required Qualifications Experience in construction surveying, field surveying, or dimensional control .

GPS/GNSS
experience is a plus. Strong documentation skills, including field reports, marked-up drawings, sketches, coordinates/elevations, and photographs. Willingness and ability to travel throughout the Southeast region. Preferred Qualifications Structural steel erection experience, including column/frame layout and multi-level steel. Experience with digital layout and as-built workflows. Experience with CAD-based layout, point files, data collectors, or BIM field points. Familiarity with construction tolerance standards. Experience coordinating survey responsibilities between contractors, GCs, and field teams. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Frequent work on active construction jobsites and outdoor environments. Ability to walk jobsites and climb stairs/ladders. Ability to work around lifts, cranes, and structural steel operations. Ability to work at elevated locations using approved access and fall-protection procedures. Flexibility to support critical erection activities, including early mornings and occasional nights/weekends. Ability to travel approximately 70% throughout the Southeast region .
