The Director will set technical standards, oversee project delivery, manage survey staff and field crews, and ensure compliance with regulatory and client requirements. This role requires a strong background in land surveying, proven leadership, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary projects from proposal through final deliverables. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the surveying department, including supervisors, survey technicians, and field crews. Plan, coordinate, and oversee boundary, topographic, and mapping surveys to ensure accurate, timely, and legally defensible results. Develop, implement, and maintain company survey standards, procedures, QA/QC practices, and safety protocols. Review and approve survey maps, plats, legal descriptions, easement exhibits, and final deliverables for completeness and compliance. Lead project proposals and scope development, prepare budgets and schedules, and track project performance against financial and timeline targets. Supervise data collection, field book management, computations, and creation of TINs and other surface models; ensure data integrity across projects. Coordinate land record research, deed analysis, and title-related investigations to support boundary determinations and easement documentation. Serve as senior technical resource and review complex field and office calculations, CAD drafting, and GIS integration. Manage client communication and stakeholder coordination, including internal design teams, regulatory agencies, and contractors. Recruit, mentor, and develop surveying staff; establish training programs and promote professional development and certification. Oversee quality control processes and final sign-off; coordinate with Licensed Land Surveyors for seal and certification as required. Ensure effective use of surveying software (Civil 3D) and hardware; recommend investments in new technology and workflows. Support subdivision planning, construction staking coordination, and issues resolution in the field as needed. Qualifications Associates degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field. Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license . 5+ years leadership experience in supervisory capacity. Demonstrated expertise in land survey practices including boundary, topographic, and mapping surveys. Strong working knowledge of survey computations, field book protocols, data collection workflows, and TIN/surface modeling. Proficiency with Civil 3D . Proven ability to develop project proposals, manage budgets and schedules, and deliver projects on time and within budget. Experience supervising field crews and survey technicians; ability to act as or support a crew chief in the field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience preparing legal descriptions, plats, easement exhibits, and client-ready deliverables. Familiarity with survey quality control processes, record research, and regulatory compliance requirements. Ability to travel to field sites and work in varied environmental conditions when required.
