A Surveyor measures the surface of the Earth and collects data used to make maps, set boundaries, and determine the shape and contour of sections of land. Uses global positioning system (GPS) and global information system (GIS) technology to make measurements. May specialize in measurements to determine airspace boundaries; may conduct marine or hydrographic surveys to measure bodies of water and determine shorelines and water flow and depth.

General Summary Use GPS and survey equipment to collect and validate data, process that data, and create reports Essential Job Accountabilities Calculate and verify computations, and create and verify sketches and CAD drawings. Review plans, plats, and legal documents to appropriately plan and schedule work. Supervise, participate in, and coordinate surveying projects and goal establishment. Education High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience Work Experience Appropriate training and experience required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Workers should be able to: Follow specific directions Perform a variety of duties which may often change Work within standards of accuracy Repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure Evaluate information using measurable standards. Physically, workers must be able to: Stand or walk for long periods Use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects Lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects and carry tools and equipment Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, and see (naturally or with correction).
