A Surveyor measures the surface of the Earth and collects data used to make maps, set boundaries, and determine the shape and contour of sections of land. Uses global positioning system (GPS) and global information system (GIS) technology to make measurements. May specialize in measurements to determine airspace boundaries; may conduct marine or hydrographic surveys to measure bodies of water and determine shorelines and water flow and depth.

Perform field surveys, including topographic and boundary surveys using measurements of surveying equipment, to determine property lines and boundaries, conduct boundary research and prepare plats, plans, and legal boundary descriptions, research additional information about properties through titles, survey records and land records, and present for recording accurate property lines and plots with the local land use authorities. Support land surveying teams working independently or collaboratively and maintain land surveying equipment. Ability to understand and interpret written documents and maps, ability to solve complex problems, math and analytical skills. Ability to maintain focus on project delivery and customer service with attention to detail while meeting deadlines. Travel is required on a regular day-to-day basis to perform field surveys within Cook County, Will County, DuPage County and Kane County.
