A Surveyor measures the surface of the Earth and collects data used to make maps, set boundaries, and determine the shape and contour of sections of land. Uses global positioning system (GPS) and global information system (GIS) technology to make measurements. May specialize in measurements to determine airspace boundaries; may conduct marine or hydrographic surveys to measure bodies of water and determine shorelines and water flow and depth.
We are seeking an experienced Survey Party Crew Chief to lead field survey operations in support of construction, land development, and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will oversee a team, operate advanced surveying equipment, and ensure the accuracy and efficiency of field data collection.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise a survey crew in the field, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Conduct boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys. Operate and maintain survey instruments such as GPS, total stations, and data collectors . Interpret engineering and survey plans, maps, and legal descriptions. Perform field calculations and ensure accurate documentation of survey data. Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and field personnel. Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and company procedures. Train and mentor junior survey crew members as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience :
3+ years of field survey experience, with leadership experience preferred.
Education :
High school diploma required; an associate or bachelor's degree in surveying, engineering, or a related field is a plus.
Technical Proficiency :
Skilled in operating total stations, GPS receivers, data collectors, and survey software .
Knowledge of Surveying Principles :
Understanding of boundary laws, construction staking, and land development practices.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
Communication & Leadership :
Strong organizational and leadership skills to effectively manage a crew and coordinate with other teams.
Licensing :
