Job Title:
Survey Crew Chief Job Description We are seeking a skilled Survey Crew Chief to lead field surveys, including topographic, boundary, and utility surveys, to determine the locations and relationships of natural and man-made features to right-of-way and boundary lines. Responsibilities Conduct field surveys to determine locations of natural and man-made features, both above and below ground, and their relationships to boundary lines. Lay out grids and determine horizontal and vertical controls; prepare survey sites by removing necessary obstacles such as debris and tree limbs. Operate survey instruments including robotic total stations, data collectors, laser scanners, GPS, and other standard equipment to collect field data. Interpret construction plans and perform necessary calculations for construction layout. Create legible and accurate field notes and upload/download data files and photographs. Set up, maintain, and operate all field survey equipment, vehicles, and supplies. Ensure all work is performed safely and responsibly, adhering to the Health and Safety Plan. Essential Skills 2+ years of experience as a Surveyor or Survey Crew Chief. Proficiency with Construction Staking/Layouts and Boundary/Topographic Surveys. Experience with Leica or Trimble Robotic Total Stations, laser scanners, GPS, and Data Collectors. Ability to review and understand civil construction and architectural plans and specifications. Competency in performing basic mathematical and trigonometric calculations. Willingness to work in all weather conditions. Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record. Additional Skills & Qualifications 5+ years of experience in surveying. Survey CAD experience. Experience in both private and public sector projects. MDOT project experience. Ability to obtain a Professional Surveyor License. Associates or Bachelors in Civil, Construction, or a related field. Work Environment This role involves heavy fieldwork under changing weather conditions, with working hours ranging from 45-50 hours per week, including some weekends. Flexible work hours are available. A company truck will be provided for use during the day to commute to project sites. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orchard Lake, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
