We proudly serve Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. We're currently looking for a motivated and dependable Survey Party Chief to join our team. Position Overview The Survey Party Chief performs construction surveying and site layout for multiple project types for various land development, infrastructure and utility mapping projects. This role requires the candidate to work on construction sites for extended hours and five (5) days per week. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, proactive, and eager to work in a dynamic, team‑focused environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Lead and supervise survey field crews on heavy civil construction projects. Operate and maintain survey equipment, including Trimble SiteWorks and Roads. Perform slope staking for cut and fill operations, including: Calculation and layout of design grades Establishing catch points, hinge points, and offsets. Verifying slope limits and grading tolerances Conduct construction staking, layout, and as-built surveys. Interpret construction plans, profiles, cross-sections, and specifications.
Perform surveying work related to:
Slope staking and earthwork construction Bridge construction layout and control Road and highway construction Work safely and efficiently around heavy construction equipment on active job sites. Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and project managers to resolve field issues. Ensure accuracy, productivity, and adherence to safety standards on job sites. Participate in quality control reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance with professional standards. Perform field work from time to time with the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and lift up to 40lbs. Collaboration & Teamwork Work closely with other surveyors, engineers, and other technical staff to support project goals. Communicate effectively with team members to ensure project clarity and timely completion. Education and Experience Requirements, Qualifications Bachelor's or associate degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Geography, Forestry, or a related field OR Minimum three to five (3-5) years of progressive survey field experience. Ability to work on large infrastructure projects for up to 10/hours/day. Working knowledge of Trimble SiteWorks or experience working with similar software platforms. Experience with GPS surveying, UAV LiDAR, and 3D laser scanning technologies is a plus Strong verbal and written communication skills.
