Job Description

Position Overview The Land Survey Party Chief is responsible for leading day-to-day field operations, operating advanced surveying instrumentation, and ensuring field data is collected accurately and efficiently. Working closely with Project Managers and CAD Technicians, you will direct field crews, manage site safety, and ensure project deliverables meet technical and legal standards.
Key Responsibilities Field Leadership:
Direct and supervise field crew members to complete daily surveying assignments on schedule.
Survey Execution:
Perform a wide range of field surveys, including boundary, topographic, construction staking, ALTA/NSPS, route, and utility surveys.
Equipment Operation:
Set up, calibrate, and operate robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, data collectors, and levels.
Data Management:
Collect, record, and verify field data, sketches, notes, and photos before transferring files to the office team.
Construction Staking:
Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and engineering drawings for accurate site layout and staking.
Safety & Quality Control:
Ensure all field activities adhere to company safety policies and local regulations. Maintain surveying vehicles, equipment, and supplies.
Client & Site Communication:
Represent Oicle Land Surveying professionally on-site when interacting with clients, contractors, property owners, and engineers.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in land surveying, with at least 1-2 years serving as a Party Chief or lead role.
Technical Proficiency:
Proficient with modern surveying equipment (Carlson RTS and Carlson GNSS) and data collectors running field software.
Plan Reading:
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret boundary maps, construction drawings, easements, and legal descriptions.
Driver's License:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (required for driving company vehicles).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, stand/walk for extended periods, traverse uneven terrain, and lift up to 50 lbs. Preferred (Plus): LSIT (Land Surveyor in Training) Experience with 3D laser scanning or FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot Certification. Experience with Carlson Survey Software or AutoCAD field-to-finish workflows.
Schedule:
Standard daytime hours, Monday through Friday (occasional weekend work or overtime as project needs dictate).
