Straub Surveying is a close-knit, growing surveying firm serving contractors, architects, engineering firms, developers, and residential clients. Our work includes boundary and ALTA surveys, mapping, laser scanning, construction surveying, and large-scale solar farm projects. We're currently seeking an experienced and motivated Chief Surveyor / Survey Party Chief who can provide leadership and technical expertise while also taking an active role in field operations. This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys leading projects and crews but still wants to be hands-on in the field. About the Role This is a hands-on leadership position combining project oversight, crew leadership, technical surveying, and field work. A significant portion of our current and upcoming workload involves large-scale solar farm projects , making travel an important part of this position. Candidates must be willing and able to travel regularly to project sites and stay overnight for multiple consecutive nights when required.

Important Travel Requirement:

This position requires frequent out-of-town travel, primarily for solar farm surveying projects. Depending on project schedules, travel may involve leaving early in the week and remaining near the project site for several nights, including Monday-through-Friday assignments . Candidates should be fully comfortable with regular overnight travel as an ongoing part of the position. We're looking for a true leader who is ready to grow with Straub Surveying—both professionally and, potentially, through future ownership opportunities within the company. Training is available for the right candidate. While surveying experience and a strong technical foundation are important, we're willing to provide training in areas such as our equipment, software, laser scanning, solar farm projects, and company processes. The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

At least 5 years of professional land surveying experience Willingness and ability to travel frequently and stay overnight for multi-day project assignments Ohio Professional Surveyor (P.S.) license preferred Strong experience with boundary, ALTA, topographic, and construction surveying Experience managing survey projects and/or field crews Experience with laser scanning and 3D data collection preferred; training is available Experience with Leica equipment and Carlson software preferred; training is available for the right candidate Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills Ability to review plats, survey plans, calculations, and final deliverables A collaborative mindset and interest in mentoring and developing junior staff Ability and willingness to perform hands-on field work A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and grow with the company Responsibilities Lead and coordinate surveying projects from initial scope through final delivery Support field operations on large-scale solar farm projects, including regular out-of-town travel and overnight/multi-night assignments Oversee boundary determinations, ALTA surveys, topographic surveys, construction layout, mapping, and solar farm surveying projects Manage field crews, assign work, review field data, and ensure projects are completed accurately and efficiently Provide technical guidance, leadership, and mentorship to junior surveyors and field staff Perform field work using GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, laser scanning equipment, and traditional surveying methods Prepare and review survey plats, plans, reports, legal descriptions, calculations, and supporting documentation Ensure work complies with applicable surveying standards, client requirements, and professional licensing requirements Utilize Carlson, CAD, GIS, and 3D scanning data to prepare and review project deliverables Coordinate with clients, contractors, engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders Maintain accurate project documentation and data Promote and maintain safe work practices on construction, solar, and other field sites Why Join Straub?
