SOCOTEC is proud to announce that it has been officially certified as a Great Place to Work by the renowned global authority on workplace culture, Great Place to Work®.Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to provide Quality Assurance and advisory oversight to assist our Survey Department in our Mechanicsburg, PA office. This senior oversight role is responsible for reviewing, signing, and sealing survey and right-of-way (ROW) plans, ensure technical quality, and support business development efforts across transportation and land development projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Mentor and develop the junior survey staff, including field crews and office staff.Assist to establish and maintain department standards, procedures, and QA/QC practices.
Provide responsible charge and signing/sealing of survey deliverables.
Oversee preparation and review of boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction, and as-built surveys.
Ensure compliance with Pennsylvania standards and client requirements, as well as neighboring states.
Coordinate with engineering and environmental teams on multidisciplinary projects.
Support PennDOT and municipal project requirements.
Assist with proposals, scope development, and fee estimates.
Develop and maintain client relationships and identify growth opportunities.
QualificationsEducation:
Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred).Experience/Training:
Minimum 8+ years of progressive surveying experience, including leadership responsibilities.Strong knowledge of boundary law and surveying principles.
Familiarity with Pennsylvania survey standards and PennDOT requirements; surrounding states a plus.
Proficiency with survey software (Carlson, Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D).Experience with CADD platforms (AutoCAD/Civil 3D; MicroStation a plus).Experience with GPS, total stations, and data collectors.
Experience developing right-of-way (ROW) plots, plans, and mosaics.
Preferred QualificationsExperience with oversight of survey teams and multiple concurrent projects.
Familiarity with transportation and infrastructure projects.
Existing relationships with PennDOT, municipalities, and/or regional clients.
Required Licenses/Certificates/RegistrationsValid Pennsylvania Driver's License.
Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in Pennsylvania (required), surrounding states a plus.
Physical Demands of JobIn accordance with OSHA and other federal workplace regulations, a Professional Land Surveyor is expected to complete the following duties:
I. In a standard workday, ranging from 8-12 hours in length, this job requires a combination of the physical ability to:
- Sit/stand up to 8 hours;
- Walk up to 4 hours; and
- Roundtrip travel up to 6 hours.
