As Survey Manager, you will be an integral part of Bryant Associates Land Survey Department in our Lincoln, RI office, where you will lead the survey function as part of our multi-discipline professional consulting firm which provides Survey, Engineering (Site/Civil, Traffic, Structural) and Construction Management services. The Survey Manager oversees survey projects from initiation to completion. They will supervise, coordinate and review activities of field and office staff as related to relevant survey projects. In addition, the Survey Manager is responsible for quality control and assurance (QA/QC), preparing and adhering to project budgets and schedules, and managing compliance with safety standards. They will also work closely with project team members and clients to lead, prepare, and participate in project proposals and interviews.
RESPONSIBILITIES
(Other duties May Be Assigned) Oversee the daily operations of the surveying department (field and office personnel), including Survey Crews, Survey Technicians, Project Surveyors/Managers and CAD Technicians/Managers Act as project manager with regard to leading client contact and contract negotiations, project budgets, setting, maintaining and upholding standards, estimation of projects, map preparation and coordination of field and office scheduling Provide guidance to Survey Crew Chiefs and Project Surveyors in order to complete daily survey assignments correctly and accurately Support surveying and mapping activities for boundary surveys, topographic mapping and construction staking projects Prepare instructions and support information, as well as review field notes and staking information for completeness and clarity Will have supervisory responsibilities for group members and support staff including hiring, promoting, terminations, performance reviews, and training Grow departmental revenue by strengthening relationships with professional contacts and existing clients Instruct, train, and mentor survey staff to deliver work that exceeds client expectations Partner with Director of Survey as needed. Coordinate and share work with other offices as appropriate Attend project and pre-construction meetings and provide input to ensure proper policies, procedures and specifications are followed Develop and maintain strong client relationships Must be able to manage multiple projects and teams Solicit, respond to and prepare proposals for services Participate in and facilitate meetings with stakeholders and clients Effectively deal with difficult situations and confrontations both internally and externally Assist engineers in outlining objectives, requirements and design approaches Responsible for gathering survey data from a variety of sources Track and manage project budgets, billings and invoicing Stamp, seal and record survey plans Assist in project deliverables as appropriate Work in a safe manner and obey all safety regulations Continually advance knowledge with upgrades in technology Complete internal and external training as required
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Prior experience providing surveying services for various transportation, civil/site, utility, structural engineering projects, etc. Proven ability to research and compile record information such as record plats/maps, legal descriptions, utility information and right of way data Strong leadership & communication skills, work ethic, and dependability Must have strong supervisory skills Demonstrated ability to instruct/ coach survey crew members on how to perform the aspects of their job they may not be skilled in Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and construction documents Ability to prepare calculations, alignments, and instructions for field work Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Highly motivated and detail oriented Desire to create and work in a team environment Observe and enforce company and client safety requirements EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 10 years as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) 15+ years of related experience required Associate's or Bachelor's degree a plus Previous supervisory experience
COMPUTER SKILLS
Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel and Word Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES
Will manage, coach and mentor all field and office survey staff.
TRAVEL:
Travel to local/regional job sites as required. Office (95%): The job requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation Standing is required Employee must occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move up to 25 pounds Field (5%): Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments Able to climb ladders Ability to carry survey instruments and equipment Lift 50 pounds
