Role Summary The Wildfire Hazard Assessor inspects properties, documents wildfire hazards, and develops clear, prioritized recommendations that help clients reduce ignition potential and improve resilience. The role combines field observation, wildfire science, client education, accurate data collection, and high-quality reporting from initial assessment through project handoff. Responsibilities Conduct on-site wildfire hazard assessments for residential, commercial, community, and public properties. Evaluate structure vulnerability, defensible space, vegetation conditions, access, topography, weather exposure, and other site-specific wildfire factors. Identify and prioritize vegetation-management, structure-hardening, and landscape actions that reduce wildfire hazard. Collect complete, accurate field data, photographs, measurements, and geospatial information using WSG-approved tools and workflows. Prepare clear assessment reports that explain findings, priorities, and actionable recommendations in language appropriate for the client. Educate property owners, HOAs, community representatives, and partners on wildfire risk, defensible space, and structure hardening. Coordinate with GIS, project, and field teams so assessment findings translate into accurate scopes, maps, proposals, and mitigation work. Maintain assessment records and data integrity; complete required documentation on time. Stay current on applicable wildfire-resilience practices, standards, regulations, and WSG procedures. Represent WSG professionally and provide responsive, practical customer service. Qualifications Relevant wildfire, forestry, fire service, natural-resource, construction, or assessment experience; three years preferred for independent assessor assignments. Defensible-space or wildfire-assessment certification appropriate to the assigned jurisdiction; NFPA Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist (CWMS) or equivalent is preferred. Working knowledge of wildfire behavior, defensible space, vegetation management, and structure-hardening concepts. Strong analytical judgment and ability to convert observations and data into prioritized recommendations. Clear written and verbal communication skills and a strong customer-service orientation. Ability to use mobile data-collection, mapping, GIS, photography, and reporting tools; training is provided for WSG systems. Bachelor's degree or progress toward a degree in forestry, environmental science, natural-resource management, fire science, or related field is preferred; equivalent experience may substitute. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project, GIS, and field teams. Physical Demands Valid driver's license and ability to travel to assessment locations. Ability to work outdoors for extended periods, walk or hike over mixed terrain, and lift/carry up to 50 lbs. Travel Requirements Regular regional travel is required; occasional extended or overnight travel may be required.
