Uses global positioning system (GPS) and global information system (GIS) technology to make measurements. May specialize in measurements to determine airspace boundaries; may conduct marine or hydrographic surveys to measure bodies of water and determine shorelines and water flow and depth.

PURPOSE:
The Surveyor is responsible for measuring, inspecting, updating, and documenting land and property boundaries using specialized surveying instruments.
JOB DUTIES
Supervises all survey crew members performing construction stakeout, and surveys including topographic, boundary, construction and utility. Maintain quality of all measurements. Record accurate field data collected, and calculations made and review for correctness. Prepare 3D models using Carlson Software for quantity, survey and machine control applications, GPS modeling and field GPS equipment. Assist operations in setup, usage, and maintenance of instrument use in their operations. Schedule and order survey materials and equipment to ensure project timelines are met. The ability to work outdoors for long hours under varying conditions and terrain. Follow all safety rules and keep work area and tools in clean and orderly condition. Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE
Thorough understanding of all common surveying and mapping instruments and technology required. Trimble knowledge is a plus. Thorough knowledge of survey computations, types of surveys and field operations in construction site and heavy civil layout. General knowledge and understanding of ALTA standards.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in heavy civil construction surveying and DOT stake out experience required. Land Surveyor License required. Proficient use of Trimble software, instruments, controllers, GPS rovers, CADD software and machine control. Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.

Exercise judgment to comply with instructions or prescribed routines, methods or practices involved in the making of minor decisions within the limitations of standard methods and procedures.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Position requires the ability to climb, to grasp, to push and pull, to bend at the waist, to walk and stand for long periods of time.
