POSITION SUMMARY

: The Survey Party Chief is a traveling position that is responsible for leading a field survey crew in the collection, layout, and verification of survey data on public and industrial projects. This role will focus on large scale construction Layout, This role requires strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety and accuracy. The Party Chief ensures that all field activities are performed in compliance with project requirements, company standards, and applicable regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

: Include the following (Other duties may be assigned):

• Supervise and direct a field survey crew, assign tasks, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and mentoring junior team members.
• Perform boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built surveys for public infrastructure (roads, utilities, easements, right-of-way) and industrial facilities (plants, pipelines, terminals, tank farms).
• Operate total stations, GNSS/GPS receivers, and digital levels; oversee use of 3D laser scanners and data collectors as needed.
• Provide accurate layout for utilities, foundations, structural steel, mechanical equipment, and civil works.
• Verify survey calculations, check closure and positional tolerances, and maintain accurate field notes and digital files.
• An effective communicator who can convey and interpret technical information in both verbal and written forms. Takes legible field notes.
• Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify scope, resolve conflicts, and meet schedule requirements.
• Maintain organized field records, daily reports, timesheets, and safety documentation.
• Ensure compliance with client-specific safety programs, and company procedures.
• Capable of being an effective leader of the field crew and comfortable interacting with Client representatives.
• Follow all safety protocols while conducting fieldwork in various site conditions.
• Stay informed on updated surveying techniques and equipment advancements.
• Approaches others in a tactful manner and reacts well under pressure.
• Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
• Oversee daily safety activities for the crew and adheres to any site security procedures.

Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical training in land surveying, geomatics, or related fields is desirable.
• Minimum 5+ years of survey experience, including 2+ years in a crew chief/lead role.
• Proficiency in operating survey instruments and data collection software.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Strong understanding of public works, industrial construction, and pipeline/plant surveying methods.
• 2+ years experience in large scale construction layouts
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Strong technical proficiency in survey equipment and software.
• Basic knowledge of survey field procedures, measurements, and terminology.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting maps, plans, and technical diagrams.
• Ability to operate survey instruments accurately and safely.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment and follow direction effectively.

• Flexibility to travel to project sites as required.

• Regular travel to project sites is required, with occasional overnight stays depending on project location and duration.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hats, safety vests, gloves, and protective eyewear as needed on job sites.
• May be exposed to loud noise, dust, and heavy equipment in the field environment.
