The Crew Chief operates and maintains robotic and GPS equipment, performs survey calculations, trains field staff, maintains accurate records, and ensures proper safety and traffic control procedures. surveys. Research project information and organize required fieldwork. Identify field issues and communicate project status to office staff. Operate and maintain robotic, GPS, and other survey equipment. Train crew members in surveying and safety procedures. Perform survey calculations before and after projects. Maintain accurate field notes, records, sketches, logs, and reports. Interpret construction plans, specifications, maps, plats, and legal descriptions. Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff. Implement appropriate job-site safety and traffic control procedures. Travel up to 20% outside the local area, including overnight stays. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and rough terrain; frequently lift up to 25 lbs. and regularly up to 50 lbs. Qualifications 3 years of surveying field experience plus 1 year supervising/training technical staff; or 1 year of experience as a Survey Instrumentation Technician. Construction surveying or elementary surveying coursework may substitute for up to 2 years of required surveying experience. High School Diploma or GED. Valid driver's license. Experience operating mechanical, optical, and electronic survey equipment. Strong knowledge of surveying principles, equipment, calculations, and construction methods. Strong algebra, geometry, and trigonometry skills. Effective communication, recordkeeping, supervision, and training skills. Ability to obtain required base-access credentials and pass applicable background/drug screening. Must be at least 18 years old. Steel-toe boots required.
