Job Description

Relocation is not required. Extensive nationwide travel is required. This is a Casual position (irregular schedule). Life Safety Code Surveyors conduct Federal surveys in healthcare facilities to assess facility compliance with federal Life Safety Code Requirements. Life Safety Code Surveyors apply analysis skills and inductive reasoning skills to assess health care organizations' compliance and to identify opportunities for improving compliance. The Surveyor will identify opportunities for improvement in the survey process and will effectively communicate said opportunities to the appropriate leadership staff. The surveyor will conduct follow-up/revisits, complaints or special investigations or monitoring reviews and be available to conduct a crisis review affecting residents of long-term care facilities. Travel will be extensive as it will likely be required for each assignment. All travel arrangements are arranged and paid for by the company.
Responsibilities:
Perform Surveyor duties in accordance with the HMS Core Values and the applicable contract Visiting long term care facilities around the country to perform the surveys and report findings Being involved in activities such as investigation of complaints and incidents concerning facilities or individuals Prepare clear and concise reports and be prepared to testify regarding survey findings Submit documentation according to established time deadlines Research, collect, organize, interpret, and communicate a large volume of information from multiple sources to assess the health care provider and regulatory agency's ability to comply with State and Federal statutes and regulations. Perform all activities in a manner that is sensitive to, and respectful of all internal and external customers. Foster behavior which is consistent with teamwork, quality performance, and respect for the individual, dependability, empowerment and responsiveness. Project professionalism in appearance and demeanor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree and 3 years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience Successful completion of CMS's Basic Life Safety Code Training required NFPA Fire Inspector 1 certification for LSCS Certifications after Jan 1, 2010 preferred Possess the knowledge, skills and abilities, to conduct Federal surveys, complaints investigations and respond to crisis situations in accordance with Federal laws, regulations, guidelines, the State Operations' Manual (SOM) and protocols established by the Federal government for the conduct of such operations. Ability to pass federal background check and legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for Visa sponsorship.
