Why you'll love this job In this role at American Airlines, your work will be instrumental in leading our voluntary disclosures and helping prepare the airline for upcoming environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting requirements, both in the U.S. and in other countries where we do business. This is an opportunity to enhance the company's existing reporting and shape our wider disclosure strategy, with regular access to subject matter experts and senior leaders across the company. This role is part of the Sustainability Team, reporting to American's Chief Sustainability Officer within the Government Affairs group. What you'll do This list is intended to reflect the current job but there may be additional essential functions (and certainly non-essential job functions) that are not referenced. Management will modify the job or require other tasks be performed whenever it is deemed appropriate to do so, observing, of course, any legal obligations including any collective bargaining obligations. Lead development of American's annual Sustainability Report, with a focus on driving the strategic themes for the company's reporting and aligning its reporting with best-in-class disclosure frameworks to obtain the maximum impact with the company's shareholders and other stakeholders. Collaborate with Legal, Finance, Operations, People and other business units to develop voluntary sustainability disclosures that are responsive to both investor feedback and mandatory disclosures in the U.S. and other countries where American does business. Partner with other members of the Sustainability Team to develop internal controls for sustainability data and metrics, coordinating as needed with external and internal audit, operations and other impacted teams to satisfy upcoming reporting regulations. Engage with investors, nonprofits, rating agencies and other external stakeholders to support transparent disclosures and improve existing reporting. Work with American's Information Technology, Financial Reporting, Safety and other business units to understand technology needs and implement solutions to capture relevant and accurate data. Support sustainability-related disclosures in other public documents, including SEC filings. Enhance data management practices to promote accuracy and audit-ready disclosures. Conduct sustainability disclosure benchmarking across and outside of the commercial aviation industry. All you'll need for success Minimum Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience Bachelor's degree, preferably in sustainability, environmental policy or similar area 5+ years of work experience, including some direct experience leading or supporting corporate sustainability/ESG reporting and disclosure efforts Familiarity with existing and pending ESG disclosure requirements in the U.S. and other regions (e.g., ECGT, CSRD, ISSB) Preferred Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience Knowledge and understanding of sustainability/ESG issues and related reporting trends, drivers and frameworks with the ability to identify and articulate opportunities to improve sustainability disclosures and performance Master's degree in public policy and/or prior experience in sustainability-related policy areas Airline or other hard-to-abate industry experience Skills, Licenses, and Certifications Clear and strategic thinker with strong research skills, ability to analyze and understand complex topics Collaborative, positive individual able to form productive relationships across the company Highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic Superior project management skills, including ability to develop plans and meet deadlines Ability to shift priorities, achieve goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail Proficiency with Microsoft Office What you'll get Feel free to take advantage of all that American Airlines has to offer:
