Job Summary The Laboratory Test Technician will perform routine testing on components of the electric grid primarily through quality assurance tests of bucket trucks, transformers, underground power cable, and overhead conductor. Additionally the technician may spend time assisting other laboratory staff with a broad variety of activities to support NEETRAC research through tests, laboratory maintenance/upgrades, and other tasks. Job Duties The Laboratory Test Technician will conduct and assist in activities such as: Performing routine tests and inspections to standards and specifications Performing basic install/maintenance/repair of electrical wiring Monitoring tests and recording test data Basic data processing using Microsoft Excel Troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment issues Performing equipment maintenance and repair tasks Setting up / constructing mechanical and electrical tests Preparing basic test reports Qualifications The Laboratory Test Technician must be able to: Balance responsibilities and adapt to shifting work volume Perform physical testing Work while standing for 5-6 hours Work in a variety of environments including outdoor, a warehouse, and a laboratory Lift 25-50 lb Ability to work from high locations (15+ feet) Work with equipment like power tools, saws, drill press, cutters, etc. Drive large trucks and NEETRAC vehicles Work with appropriate PPE (gloves, boots, hard hats, safety classes, etc.) and follow appropriate dress code and safety protocol for working with machines Preferred experience : Demonstrated hands-on mechanical or electrical related experience and understanding of basic electrical theory Preferred education : Technical Diploma/Associates Degree/Technology Degree in a science-related field or interest and ability to obtain one within the next few years. Hourly rate is determined by considering both applicable experience and education
