Electrical Testing and Comissioning Technician Role Summary We are seeking a highly precise and experienced Electrical Testing Technician to lead the diagnostic testing, megging, and documentation phases for secondary substations at our mission-critical data center facilities. In this role, you will be the final line of quality assurance before primary systems are energized. You will execute comprehensive electrical testing on medium- and low-voltage infrastructure, rigorously document all findings to satisfy commissioning standards, and ensure the facility's power distribution meets strict reliability requirements for 100% uptime operations. Core Responsibilities Megging, Diagnostics & Electrical Testing Perform comprehensive insulation resistance testing (Megger testing) on medium-voltage and low-voltage cables, switchgear, transformers, and busways to verify insulation integrity. Execute secondary substation testing, including primary and secondary injection testing on circuit breakers, contact resistance testing (Ductor), and Hi-Pot/VLF testing. Verify the proper operation of protective relays, current transformers (CTs), potential transformers (PTs), and interlock schemes. Conduct power quality analysis, phase rotation checks, and load bank testing to validate the performance of the secondary distribution system under stress. Safely operate and calibrate advanced electrical testing equipment (e.g., Megger, Fluke, Omicron, Doble). Documentation & Quality Assurance Generate meticulous, audit-ready test reports for every component within the secondary substation, ensuring data aligns with OEM specifications and site design parameters. Maintain accurate real-time digital logs of all megging results, baseline metrics, and environmental conditions at the time of testing. Identify, document, and track electrical deficiencies or anomalies in a centralized punch-list system, collaborating with contractors to resolve issues prior to final turnover. Update redline drawings and assist in the finalization of electrical as-built documentation for the facility management team. Prepare final handover packages and Method of Procedure (MOP) documentation for the data center operations team. Safety & Site Coordination Strictly adhere to OSHA regulations and site-specific Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures during all testing phases. Collaborate closely with the Commissioning Agent (CxA), General Contractor, Electrical Engineers, and Data Center Operations staff to schedule testing windows without impacting active loads.

Required Qualifications & Skills Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in electrical testing, commissioning, or maintenance of medium/low-voltage substations. Previous experience in data centers, hospitals, or similar mission-critical environments is highly preferred.

Certifications:

NETA (InterNational Electrical Testing Association) Level 2 or Level 3 certification is strongly preferred, or equivalent NICET certification.

Technical Knowledge:

Deep understanding of electrical theory, relay logic, transformer configurations, and power distribution systems up to 35kV.

Equipment Mastery:

Demonstrated proficiency with advanced testing apparatus, particularly insulation resistance testers (Megger), micro-ohmmeters, and relay test sets.

Software Proficiency:

Familiarity with electrical testing software, CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems), and standard office documentation tools (Excel, Word, Procore).

Communication:

Exceptional written communication skills required for highly detailed technical reporting and documentation. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Ability to lift and transport testing equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Comfortable working in an active construction and data center environment, which includes varying temperatures, loud noises, and navigating tight spaces (e.g., beneath raised floors or within switchgear rooms).
