POSITION OVERVIEW
Or Client is one of Woodward's largest energy aftermarket business partners globally and recognized Engine and Turbine Retrofitter. They are a dynamic technical sales and service company located throughout the United States and Mexico and each of their facilities is an authorized Woodward Sales and Service Center. They provide support and enhancement to Diesel and Natural Gas Engines as well as Steam and Gas Turbine control systems. In addition to the innovative products and solutions for prime movers, they offer products and solutions for Power Generation and Distribution, and Compressor Anti-Surge Controls. The Panel Test Technician is responsible for the verification, testing, and quality assurance of control panels fabricated at our Client's facility. This role ensures that all panels are constructed in accordance with engineering drawings and project specifications, and performs customer witness testing (Factory Acceptance Testing / CATs) to confirm panel integrity and functionality prior to shipment. The technician works closely with the engineering and panel assembly teams to identify and resolve construction discrepancies, drawing errors, and non-conformances.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform point-to-point continuity checks on completed control panels to verify proper wiring in accordance with approved drawings. Inspect panel construction to ensure conformance with engineering drawings, schematics, terminal assignments, and bill of materials. Identify, document, and communicate construction deficiencies or drawing errors to engineering staff for resolution. Measure and source voltage, current, and frequency using calibrated test equipment (DMMs, clamp meters, signal generators, etc.). Follow established test procedures and checklists; document test results accurately and completely. Perform and support customer witness testing (Factory Acceptance Tests / CATs), including hosting customer representatives on-site and guiding them through acceptance procedures. Coordinate with the engineering team to prepare test packages, including test procedures, loop check sheets, and red-line markups. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the panel shop and test area. Communicate test status and findings clearly to project engineers and project managers.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or vocational/technical certification in Electrical Technology or related field preferred. Minimum 2 years of experience in electrical panel wiring, testing, or related instrumentation and controls work. Demonstrated understanding of AC and DC circuit theory, including voltage, current, resistance, and power relationships. Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, terminal drawings, and one-line diagrams. Hands-on experience with standard electrical test equipment including digital multimeters, loop calibrators, and insulation testers. Ability to follow written test procedures and document results accurately. Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality and accuracy. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with Woodward or other turbomachinery control systems. Familiarity with industrial instrumentation standards (4-20 mA loops, HART, Modbus, etc.). Experience participating in or supporting Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) or Customer Acceptance Tests (CATs). Working knowledge of NEC and applicable electrical codes for industrial control panels. Experience with IEC or NEMA panel construction standards. AutoCAD knowledge a plus; ability to navigate and mark up electrical drawings in AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical is beneficial .
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in confined panel spaces for extended periods. Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted. Visual acuity sufficient for reading small wiring labels, terminal markings, and schematics. Manual dexterity for connecting and terminating wiring in tight spaces.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is primarily based in a panel fabrication shop. Occasional travel to customer sites or Woodward facilities may be required for field acceptance testing. The work environment includes exposure to electrical voltages and standard shop conditions. Adherence to all company safety policies and procedures is mandatory Background and Drug Screenings Required.
