Job Description
Senior Roadway Engineer Volkert Inc. paid time off, 401(k) United States, Georgia, Alpharetta Jul 22, 2026 Are we the road to your future? We are currently searching for an experienced Senior Roadway Engineer to support our Southeast Region located in Atlanta, GA. To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a BS degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university. What you'll be doing: Leading or assisting in the development of project designs and directing EIs and designers to successfully execute and deliver project work, while implementing client focused strategies
Calculating plan quantities and developing engineering estimates, developing construction specifications, and coordinating with subconsultants
Applying established and well-defined engineering techniques, procedures, policies, or standards
Preparing reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and designs for projects
Working in a team environment team to deliver a range of transportation and civil design projects and participating in business development efforts and meetings with clients
Participating in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies. Coordinating work to ensure best practices with all team members
Adjust and correlate data, recognizing discrepancies in results
Identify and analyze problems using reasoning to arrive at conclusions
Apply standard practices and techniques to accomplish work assignments
Understand and adhere to assigned phase and task schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of project
Adhere to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual What you need to have: BS degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
6 - 12 years relevant experience in roadway design
Must have proven skills in meeting DOT expectations, schedules, and budgets
Written and communication skills
GDOT experience is preferred but not required
PE is required
Experienced in DOT design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications
Proficient with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and/or Inroads
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines.
