  • ( 2602369 ) Position Information Dallas District's Bridge Section is looking to hire a Bridge Team Lead based in Mesquite, TX.

This engineer will help preserve our significant financial investment in Texas bridges, meet and exceed the Federal Highway Administration's requirements for state Bridge Inspection Programs, and lead a team responsible for in-house bridge and special structures design, plan preparation, 3D bridge modeling, and research implementation. The role also involves training team members, ensuring quality control, and creating bridge repair plans and follow-up action reviews. Dallas District oversees the maintenance, inspection, and monitoring of more than 7000 bridges. As a District, we have more structures than most states. Responsibilities for this position will include routine inspections, special inspections, condition surveys, QA/QC of inspections and preparation and review of scour documentation. Position Description Transportation Engineer IV, V:

Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or research. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties:

Transportation Engineer IV Assists districts with bridge inspection-related matters. Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation. Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support. Inspects structures for impact damage and/or construction problems. Schedules, assigns, and oversees bridge inspection activities. Ensures compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards. Reviews designs and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians. Monitors contract performance evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and/or prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance. Leads/ Trains professional and administrative staff Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Transportation Engineer V

  • Performs all the above plus: Designs highly complex bridge projects and performs specialized design.

Assists Project Managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines for advanced and highly complex projects.

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

  • 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Minimum Qualifications Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Licensed Prof Engineer

  • Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States , but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
Competencies:

Transportation Engineer IV Extensive knowledge of: Speaking to present images and ideas in a clear, concise, organized, and interesting manner to optimize audience understanding and keep the group focused. Planning, coordinating, and handling multiple projects withing area of responsibility to meet short and long-term deadlines. Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems.   • all the above plus: Extensive knowledge of: Structural engineering terminology, principles, practices and methods and the application of engineering theory.

Standards and specifications for bridges and other transportation structures Fatigue and fracture mechanics. Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing, and compliance requirements. Hydrologic, hydraulic, and geotechnical design activities and principles.

Conditions of Employment:

For Bridge Inspection:

Must have completed a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within (1) year of date of hire. Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment. This position requires a minimum of two years of direct bridge design experience and one year of bridge inspection experience.
