4/10s w/ 6am start time; expect some OT Anniston, AL Position Overview BAE Systems is seeking a Quality Engineer to support the Combat Mission Systems' Paladin vehicle manufacturing program. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality evaluation and control systems within a low-rate, automotive-style manufacturing environment. This position ensures quality requirements are met across multiple stages of vehicle assembly, including Engine Testing, Sub-assemblies, Main Line, Garage, Testing, and Paint & Processing. The successful candidate will serve as a critical link between production and quality, collaborating with cross-functional teams to investigate, document, and resolve complex issues associated with military vehicle manufacturing. This role requires a proactive approach to continuous improvement, utilizing quality tools and data analytics to drive corrective actions and ensure conformance to technical specifications and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities Quality System Management:
Develop and modify quality control protocols for in-process, partially finished, and completed tracked vehicles.
Process Validation:
Validate manufacturing processes, procedures, components, and completed vehicles to ensure 100% conformance to engineering specifications and customer requirements.
Data Analysis and Continuous Improvement:
Monitor and analyze quality data using Pareto analysis to identify defect trends and nonconformities. Present findings to leadership and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams (CFTs) to resolve production bottlenecks, quality escapes, and manufacturing challenges.
Quality Compliance:
Ensure manufacturing activities comply with
ISO 9001
standards and internal BAE Systems quality requirements. Required Qualifications Quality Engineering and Manufacturing Experience Strong understanding of Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) principles. Experience working within
ISO 9001
quality management systems. Experience in manufacturing, production, assembly, or automotive environments, preferably involving low-rate, high-complexity assemblies. Demonstrated ability to implement and maintain quality control protocols. Experience performing root cause analysis and applying structured problem-solving techniques. Proficiency in using Pareto charts and other data analysis tools to identify defect trends and implement corrective actions. Experience leading cross-functional teams to resolve production issues and quality escapes. Technical Skills Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications. Experience validating component and assembly conformance to engineering requirements. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate technical issues effectively with production personnel, engineering teams, and senior leadership. Preferred Qualifications Formal training or certification in structured problem-solving methodologies, including: Root Cause Analysis (RCA) 5-Why Analysis Fishbone (Ishikawa) Diagrams 8D Problem-Solving Methodology Experience developing and maintaining Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and Process Quality Control Tables (PQCT). Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Experience developing inspection programs using portable metrology equipment, including Faro arms and laser trackers. Hands-on experience with Oracle MRP systems and TIPQA quality management software. Experience conducting ISO internal audits and Layered Process Audits (LPA). Ability to lead cross-functional meetings to address and close audit findings. Experience developing and refining manufacturing work instructions to reduce human-factor errors and improve assembly quality. Candidates must meet one of the following combinations of education and experience: Education Minimum Experience Bachelor's Degree 2+ years of relevant quality engineering experience Associate's Degree 4+ years of relevant quality engineering experience High School Diploma 8+ years of relevant experience, including demonstrated leadership or supervisory responsibilities EOE (including Disability/Veterans) How to Apply for
