What to Expect

The Staff Quality Engineer will work as a member of Tesla's Quality organization. The primary objective of this role is to support the production of high-quality electric vehicles through the continual improvement of process and product quality and the systems that surround them. The successful candidate for this position must be a problem-solver at his/her core, have a strong quality & customer-focused mindset, and have the personal drive and passion for relentless, continual improvement. What You'll Do

Act as a subject matter expert and technical leader for the Interior, Electric and Chassis QE team. Lead a team of Quality Engineers and Engineering Technicians to prioritize and efficiently tackle the top Quality issues originating from Production teams and Customer feedback

Motivating the team while challenging them to grow in their skillsets and career

Provide actionable and concise updates on top Quality issues to Senior Leadership

Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams to drive process and product improvements; use of QA methodologies to manage and facilitate issue resolution including root cause investigations and the development, implementation and monitoring of effective corrective and preventive actions

Establish and maintain quality performance metrics

Develop and implement quality standards as part of the Tesla Quality System to assure products meet expectations of our target customers

Support the development of product specifications and tolerances, design and process FMEAs and DVAs, establish and maintain control plans and inspection standards to assure critical features are controlled through the assembly/production processes

Lead/facilitate review and disposition of discrepant materials identified for control of nonconforming product

Establish a control point system with Stamping, BIW and Paint to assure quality bodies are sent to GA

Promote and maintain a culture and attitude of continuous improvement, working within the Tesla team to make it more efficient, safer and an enjoyable place to work What You'll Bring

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent certification or proven equivalent experience

Quality systems experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred)

Specific training and demonstrated success in applying quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, 8 D's, 5 Why's, 4 M's etc.

Experience with broad variety of measurement and inspection techniques

Demonstrate ability to be detail and data oriented for any decision making

Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills

Ability, willingness to travel domestically, and internationally

Must be detail oriented, people skills is a must, effectively handle multiple priorities, have a strong quality mindset and have the ability to meet tight deadlines

5 + years of related experience on engineering roles and leadership roles as well

Experience with CATIA, Autocad, Solidworks or similar design/drawing software/tools

Expected Compensation

$120,000 - $216,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
