As a Staff Engineer for SSD Validation, you will coordinate the validation, system integration, and joint qualification of our elite Enterprise and Datacenter NVMe SSD products. Position Overview The Staff Engineer for SSD Validation directs the technical activities in validation, system integration, and collaborative qualification of Enterprise and Datacenter NVMe SSD products. This position oversees the validation strategy and actively engages in firmware, hardware, and system testing. It holds primary responsibility for assisting new customers through joint qualification (JQ). The Staff Engineer serves as a specialist in NVMe/PCIe, encourages automation and early quality improvements, and mentors other engineers. They also guarantee that products are prepared for production on both internal and customer platforms. Working with Firmware, Hardware, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and Customer Engineering teams, this role fosters internal coordination and uniform qualification outcomes. Responsibilities
  • Lead system-level validation and qualification, performing end-to-end testing across SSDs, firmware, drivers, OS, networking, and platform configurations.
  • Direct validation test plans from development through completion, including failure analysis, reporting, and coordination with customer joint qualification (JQ) requirements.
  • Perform hands-on system bring-up, debug, and configuration, including OS installation, driver validation, and storage-stack verification.
  • Support customer and partner issue reproduction, converting field/JQ findings into internal test cases and improving validation coverage.
  • Develop and improve automated test frameworks and Python-based tools while driving shift-left validation to influence build and improve product testability. Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in SSD, storage, or semiconductor validation with deep knowledge of NVMe and PCIe protocols
  • Hands-on expertise with Linux environments, system setup, OS bring-up, drive triage, and root-cause analysis of complex issues
  • Proven background in Enterprise/Datacenter SSD firmware validation, including system-level joint qualification
  • Proficiency in Python for automation and data analysis, paired with strong communication skills for conveying technical results to internal and external partners Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading or assisting customer joint qualification (JQ) efforts with OEMs, hyperscalers, or strategic partners
  • Familiarity with networked storage environments, platform interoperability, and multi-system qualification flows
  • Hands-on experience with protocol analyzers (e.g., Lecroy, JDSU) and third-party SSD test platforms (e.g., UNH-IOL, PCI-SIG compliance, SanBlaze)
  • Strong understanding of PCIe topology, BIOS/firmware behavior, Linux storage stacks, and drivers

The US base salary range that Micron Technology estimates it could pay for this full-time position is: $134,000.00 - $247,000.00 a year Additional compensation may include benefits, bonuses and equity. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target base pay for new hire salaries of the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, tenure and relevant education or training.
