Job Description

Massachusetts Employer Quality Engineer Billerica, MA Apply The Quality Engineer ?is responsible for ensuring that all conformal coating processes meet IPC, customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements. This role provides technical oversight of coating applications, inspection, process validation, and defect prevention for high-reliability electronics. The position requires strong technical expertise in IPC standards, conformal coating materials, selective coating systems, for applicable industry regulations. Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain conformal coating quality control plans.
  • Ensure compliance with IPC, NASA, MIL, customer-specific, and internal quality standards.
  • Review and approve coating process parameters for spray, dip, brush, and selective coating systems.
  • Validate curing profiles, including UV, thermal, and moisture-cure processes.
  • Support DFM, PFMEA, FMEA, and NPI activities.
  • Oversee masking and demasking processes to prevent functional and cosmetic defects.
  • Define inspection criteria in accordance with IPC-A-610, IPC-CC-830, and
J-STD-001.
  • Ensure proper UV inspection lighting, verification methods, and inspection controls are in place.
  • Implement and support incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities.
  • Support First Article Inspection and FAIR documentation.
  • Conduct structured Root Cause Analysis using methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, and DMAIC.
  • Provide technical input on UV cure systems, ovens, and coating thickness measurement tools.
  • Validate coating thickness measurement methods, including micrometers, wet film gauges, and cross-section analysis.
  • Support NCRs, DMRs, RCCAs, CAPAs, and SCARs.
  • Train operators and inspectors on coating quality standards, workmanship criteria, and customer requirements.
  • Drive yield improvement initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Support quality-related tasks and initiatives assigned by the VP of Quality. Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and
J-STD-001.
  • Familiarity with conformal coating materials, application methods, and process development.
  • Experience with UV light inspection and magnification-based inspection methods.
  • Knowledge of selective coating programming, preferably with PVA and Nordson systems.
  • Experience with AOI systems is preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in quality engineering, conformal coating, or a related electronics manufacturing environment. Skills
  • Strong understanding of high-reliability electronics manufacturing requirements.
  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, medical, or other regulated industries.
  • Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, and the sale teams.
