Job Description

Role Overview SMK Global is seeking an experienced Plant Engineer to oversee and optimize our dietary supplement manufacturing equipment, with a primary focus on automated jar fill lines and secondary packaging operations. The Plant Engineer will evaluate machinery performance, implement reliability improvements, reduce downtime, and drive plant throughput while maintaining strict compliance with cGMP standards.
Key Responsibilities & Duties Packaging & Jar Line Optimization:
Drive daily technical performance, setup efficiency, line changeovers, and continuous improvement projects specifically across high-speed jar filling and packaging lines.
Capital Planning & Upgrades:
Collaborate with the Plant Manager and Maintenance team to develop annual capital budgets, assess equipment performance, and recommend machinery upgrades or replacements.
Technical Leadership & Training:
Provide technical support and hands-on training to operations and maintenance personnel to improve troubleshooting capabilities and operational reliability.
Compliance & Quality:
Ensure all manufacturing processes and packaging equipment comply with internal quality standards, safety protocols, and FDA cGMP regulations (21 CFR Part 111).
Root Cause Analysis & Failure Data:
Perform engineering calculations, statistical analysis, and structured root-cause evaluations on failure data to design permanent corrective actions.
Maintenance & Vendor Oversight:
Partner with maintenance to address equipment wear, reduce operating costs, manage maintenance log documentation, and oversee third-party vendors (e.g., fire protection, pest control).
Project & Risk Leadership:
Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams, maintain project timelines, and provide risk mitigation leadership across safety and environmental standards.
Quality Reporting:
Promptly report any food safety, dietary supplement quality, or equipment integrity issues to authorized management.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical/engineering field.
Experience:
Minimum of 6 years of hands-on engineering experience in a dietary supplement, pharmaceutical, or food manufacturing environment.
Specialized Expertise:
Direct, proven experience with automated jar filling lines, cGMP packaging equipment, and high-speed production line integration.
Regulatory Knowledge:
Solid understanding of cGMP SOPs specific to dietary supplement manufacturing regulations.
Technical Skills:
Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude; proficiency in SAP or similar enterprise asset management/inventory systems preferred.
Leadership:
Demonstrated track record leading problem-solving initiatives, managing project timelines, and training technical/operational teams.
Physical Demands & Work Environment Physical Demands:
Regularly required to walk the production floor, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform detailed visual inspections and work around active machinery. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Work Environment:
Active dietary supplement manufacturing environment exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne dust/powders, and moderate noise levels. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) includes lab coats/clothing, hairnets, face masks, gloves, and safety glasses.
Pay:
$65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
