Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is hiring for Associate, Mid-level, or Senior Industrial Controls Reliability Engineer to join the Production Engineering (PE) team in North Charleston, SC. This position will directly support the 787 program. As a member of the PE team, team will have direct impact towards delivery of 787 Dreamliners by taking the initiative through hands-on immersion into the production areas, proactively analyzing production asset downtime data trends, executing asset upgrade projects, and applying reliability engineering practices to ensure that new designs are validated and built reliably into production from the start. Associate, Mid-level, or Senior Industrial Controls Reliability Engineers Position Responsibilities:
Designs, analyzes and modifies aerospace manufacturing equipment and tooling that meet stakeholder requirements. Researches, develops, evaluates and integrates robotics, automation, and new technologies and processes related to equipment and tooling for applicability to programs and products. Teams with cross-functional subject matter experts develop and review bids and procurement specifications. Estimates, plans, manages and executes the acquisition and modification of equipment and tooling. Develops and implements testing and acceptance to validate performance. Creates and maintains related documentation for equipment and tooling, develops preventative maintenance plans and trains personnel as needed. Develops and implements interim solutions for damaged and unsafe equipment and tooling. Investigates engineering changes and controls equipment and tooling configuration in accordance with company procedures. Develops and recommends equipment reliability improvements through the application of reliability engineering tooling. Create and maintain PLC ladder logic, function block diagrams (FBD), and structured text for automation sequences. Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to integrate control systems with equipment hardware. Perform system validation, commissioning, and functional testing of control systems. Diagnose and resolve equipment control issues both remotely and onsite. Develop and maintain electrical and control system documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals. Optimize existing PLC programs for performance and reliability improvements. Provide technical support and training for operations and maintenance personnel. Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and automation projects. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience): Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field. Level 2 (Associate): 2 or more years of experience working in a production and/or manufacturing environment. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Level 3 (Mid-level): 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience Level 4 (Senior): 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum 3-5 years of experience in PLC programming and control system design. Proficient in PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation), Siemens, or similar. Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.). Experience with
HMI/SCADA
systems and related software. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and P&IDs. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Experience in equipment automation within aerospace, automotive, or manufacturing industries. Knowledge of safety standards such as
OSHA, NFPA
70E, and machine safety (ISO 13849, IEC 62061). Familiarity with industrial robotics and motion control systems. Certification in PLC programming or automation engineering. Experience in Computer Aided Design (CAD) modeling software programs Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Experience in equipment maintenance Experience in project management Proficient in Root Cause Analysis or similar troubleshooting technique Experience in Data analytics Knowledge of configuration management systems and documentation practices Knowledge of reliability practices such as condition-based maintenance, vibration analysis, thermography, machine alignment

  • 115,000 Summary Pay Range for Mid-level (Level 3): $103,700
  • 140,300 Summary Pay Range for Senior-level (Level 4): $126,650
