Quality Engineer Department:
Quality Reports to: Quality Manager
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective The Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving quality specifications for Company products, materials, processes, and equipment. This role ensures customer requirements are met, leads problem-solving initiatives, and drives continuous improvement efforts. The Quality Engineer also investigates customer complaints and internal non-conformities, coordinates cross-functional teams, and ensures compliance with quality standards and customer expectations. The Quality Engineer will also contribute to a work environment where fairness, equality, and non-discriminatory practices are the standard. Monitor customer portals, complaints, and performance metrics daily to ensure compliance with requirements and deadlines 2. Act as the primary customer contact ("Voice of the Customer"), communicating requirements and concerns to relevant departments 3. Ensure all processes and procedures comply with company quality standards and control plans 4. Prepare and analyze quality reports, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence 5. Lead internal and external quality investigations using structured problem-solving methods, coordinating activities with cross-functional teams 6. Perform PCP, Cpk, and SPC analyses for assigned programs in accordance with the Quality System 7. Analyze scrap and nonconformance data and implement action plans to address root causes 8. Coordinate with customer representatives to ensure satisfaction and prevent quality impacts 9. Conduct internal audits, quality walks, and provide or support quality-related training as needed 10. Monitor the effectiveness of plant systems and processes, including poka-yoke, work standards, and process verification 11. Support resolution of internal and external audit findings, including IATF, VDA, QMS, and Product Audits 12. Execute program quality requirements per the YAPP Program Management Roadmap (PMRM) from concept through production launch 13. Communicate lessons learned from prior quality issues, supplier problems, and warranty data to ensure countermeasures are applied in new launches 14. Identify and implement customer-specific requirements 15. Develop prototype, pre-launch, and production control plans to ensure products meet customer specifications 16. Review product and process quality systems, addressing deviations in accordance with APQP requirements 17. Support supplier and customer technical issue resolution 18. Lead Process Readiness and Quality Readiness checklist reviews for assigned programs; track KPIs and escalate issues when necessary 19. Audit compliance with process control plans and report deviations 20. Lead customer audits and oversee completion of corrective action plans 21. Maintain the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) database 22. Lead PPAP submissions for assigned programs, ensuring all required elements are approved by customers 23. Support Engineering with prototype builds, ensuring compliance with customer documentation and approvals 24. Monitor aftersales PPMs and customer indicators, coordinating improvement plans when targets are not met 25. Conduct product audits and verify completion of corrective action plans for findings 26. Lead supplier quality investigations affecting tank and customer assembly operations 27. Participate in engineering and process change activities related to quality 28. Provide quality input during quotation meetings 29. Exercise authority to stop production or shipment to resolve quality issues 30. Perform other related duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibility This position may include supervisory responsibilities, depending on company and/or customer requirements. Work Environment This position operates primarily in an office and manufacturing environment. The role routinely involves the use of standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. While performing job duties, the incumbent may frequently be exposed to moving mechanical parts within the manufacturing area. The noise level in the manufacturing environment is typically moderate. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing job duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently stands, walks, uses hands to grasp small objects, handles materials, feels, and reaches with hands and arms. Further, this position requires the ability to occasionally lift 50lbs. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Overtime and weekend work may be required based on business needs. Travel This position requires travel of up to 25%. The Quality Engineer must be able to visit various locations as needed to address work-related matters promptly and effectively. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) Over two (2) years of experience in quality engineering, preferably in the automotive or manufacturing industry Strong knowledge of quality systems, standards, and regulatory requirements, including
IATF 16949, ISO
9001, and customer-specific requirements Preferred Education and Experience Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field Demonstrated understanding of problem-solving methodologies, such as 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone Analysis Experience applying Lean Manufacturing principles, including Value Stream Mapping, Flow, and Continuous Improvement Familiarity with major automotive OEM portals (e.g., GM, Ford, Stellantis, VW, Nissan, Volvo, John Deere) for quality tracking and reporting Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and its application in production and inspection Proficiency with quality management software, ERP, or MES systems preferred Soft Skills Teamwork and collaboration Problem-solving and analytical thinking Accountability and responsibility Decision-making Communication skills Leadership Integrity and ethics Results orientation Strong organizational skills Work Authorization/Security Clearance Must possess valid documentation authorizing employment in the United States Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid passport AAP/EEO Statement
