Job Title:
Metrology Engineer Job Description The Metrology Engineer develops, validates, and optimizes dimensional inspection programs for advanced metrology platforms, with a strong focus on aerospace manufacturing. This role establishes standardized measurement practices, leads measurement system validation, and drives continuous improvement in automation and cycle time. The position also provides technical leadership in metrology methods, documentation, and training to ensure consistent, accurate, and repeatable inspection processes across the site. Responsibilities + Develop, validate, and optimize dimensional inspection programs across Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and blue light / structured light platforms. + Establish standardized programming practices, including part setup and staging, datum alignment methods, and consistent reporting formats. + Perform Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) studies to validate automated inspection programs and confirm measurement system capability. + Design and create fixturing setups that support repeatable, efficient, and stable inspection programs. + Troubleshoot and perform root cause and corrective action (RCCA) for programming and measurement system issues affecting inspection quality or throughput. + Develop and maintain standard work instructions, training materials, and troubleshooting documentation to ensure knowledge retention and consistent measurement processes. + Train and mentor personnel on the operation of metrology equipment, inspection programs, and standardized measurement practices. + Review and approve automated program packages, including programs, setup documentation, and GR&R studies, ensuring compliance with standard work and established best practices. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams to brainstorm and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on increasing automation and reducing inspection cycle time. + Assist in the technical evaluation, selection, and implementation of new metrology technologies and tools. + Investigate and document measurement non-conformances, ensuring clear communication of findings and recommended corrective actions. + Document best practices and troubleshooting guides to support effective knowledge transfer and long-term sustainability of metrology processes. Essential Skills + Expertise in dimensional inspection methods and tools, including Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and blue light / structured light systems. + Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and blueprints and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles in accordance with relevant standards such asASME Y14.5.
+ Proven experience performing Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) studies for automated inspection programs. + Hands-on experience developing CMM inspection programs onZEISS PRISMO
using Calypso software and/or Renishaw Agility using Modus and/or PolyWorks. + Experience developing blue light / structured light inspection programs usingZEISS INSPECT
(GOM) on systems such as ZEISS scanners and/or T-SCAN Hawk 2, as well as KEYENCE VL and/or VR systems. + Ability to systematically investigate and clearly document measurement non-conformances. + Demonstrated ability to create and maintain best-practice documentation, standard work, and troubleshooting guides to support knowledge transfer. + Familiarity with aerospace quality systems and standards, including ISO9001 and AS9100. + Experience working in aerospace or defense manufacturing or metrology environments is strongly preferred. Additional Skills & Qualifications + High school diploma or equivalent (such as a G.E.D.) or vocational/technical education in a related discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience. + Or a bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience. + in aerospace metrology and CMM inspection within regulated quality environments. + Comfort working with advanced metrology platforms, including ZEISS PRISMO, Renishaw Agility, ZEISS INSPECT (GOM), T-SCAN Hawk 2, andKEYENCE VL/VR
systems. + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to measurement systems and process improvement. + Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and train personnel on metrology tools and standards. Work Environment This is an on-site role at a manufacturing facility in Irving, where the Metrology Engineer works directly within an aerospace production and inspection environment. The position involves regular interaction with CMMs, blue light / structured light systems, and related metrology equipment on the shop floor and in inspection areas. The work setting emphasizes adherence to aerospace quality standards such as ISO9001 and AS9100, with a strong focus on precision, repeatability, and process discipline. Typical hours follow standard full-time site operations, with collaboration across engineering, quality, and production teams to support ongoing manufacturing activities and continuous improvement initiatives Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Dallas, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
