Commissioning Engineer Location:
South Hill, VA (on-site; 50% office / 50% field)
Compensation:
$85,000-$125,000 base (depending on experience/interview)
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, around 7:00am-3:00pm for field support; office hours are flexible. Workload fluctuates with construction (average 40-50 hours/week). Overview We are hiring a Commissioning Engineer to support multiple active projects with additional work ramping up later this year. This role focuses on final testing, startup, commissioning, analysis, and troubleshooting of low- and medium-voltage electrical distribution equipment in both field and manufacturing environments. Travel may be required (local/regional/national based on project needs). What you'll do Perform final testing, startup, and commissioning of electrical distribution equipment (breakers, transformers, switches, switchgear, relays, MCCs, UPS, power monitoring systems, etc.) Execute testing, analysis, and troubleshooting to validate equipment/system performance and fail-safe operation Support commissioning documentation and deliverables (simple electrical sketches, commissioning plans, data sheets) Perform routine electrical calculations and assist with review of supplier documentation for spec compliance Follow engineering standards, guidelines, and applicable codes Produce clear technical documentation and reports Communicate effectively with field teams and internal project stakeholders to support safe, successful execution Requirements Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or closely related engineering discipline) 1+ year of relevant experience (commissioning, electrical testing, power systems, manufacturing test, field start-up, or similar) Familiarity with power systems equipment (switchgear, transformers, breakers, protective relays, panels, UPS, test equipment) Strong technical writing and documentation skills Working knowledge of industry codes/standards and basic electrical engineering theory Willingness to travel to customer/project sites as needed Work environment / physical requirements Ability to work at a computer for extended periods Ability to sit for extended periods and perform frequent hand/finger dexterity tasks (keyboard/mouse) Ability to communicate clearly (verbal and written) and interpret technical information Preferred background (nice to have) Experience supporting data center, industrial, utility, or electrical manufacturing environments Combination of field commissioning exposure and office-based engineering/documentation work System One, and its subsidiaries including Joulé and Mountain Ltd., are leaders in delivering outsourced services and workforce solutions across North America.
