General Overview The Water/Wastewater Engineer II is responsible for performing professional engineering work in the planning, design, permitting, and construction administration of water, wastewater, and related infrastructure projects. This position applies sound engineering principles to complete increasingly complex assignments while collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams. The Engineer II manages project tasks, coordinates with clients and regulatory agencies, and mentors junior engineering staff under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers. This position reports to the Senior Engineer. Essential Job Responsibilities Prepare engineering designs, calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents for water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Design water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, pumping stations, storage facilities, treatment facilities, and related municipal infrastructure. Perform hydraulic modeling, system evaluations, and engineering analyses to support project development. Develop cost estimates, technical memorandums, feasibility studies, and engineering reports. Coordinate project activities with project managers, clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal disciplines. Review drawings and technical documents for quality, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards. Assist with permitting efforts and prepare permit applications for local, state, and federal agencies. Conduct field investigations, site visits, inspections, and condition assessments as required. Provide construction phase services including responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), reviewing shop drawings, evaluating change orders, and performing construction observations. Manage assigned project tasks while maintaining budgets, schedules, and quality standards. Mentor and provide technical guidance to Engineer I staff, interns, and CAD designers. Participate in proposal preparation, scope development, and client presentations. Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients and project stakeholders. Stay current with engineering practices, technologies, and regulatory requirements. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills/Knowledge Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering discipline. Minimum of 3-6 years of progressively responsible experience in water and wastewater engineering. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within two years. Experience with municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Strong understanding of water and wastewater engineering principles and design standards. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing water and wastewater systems. Ability to independently perform engineering calculations and technical analyses. Experience preparing plans, specifications, engineering reports, and construction documents. Proficiency with engineering software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, hydraulic modeling software (WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, InfoWater, InfoSewer, or similar), and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational and project management abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary teams. Physical Requirements - Work Environment Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to perform field work on active construction sites and in varying weather conditions. Ability to traverse uneven terrain during site visits and inspections. Ability to operate a motor vehicle to travel to project sites and client meetings. Daily Work Location/Hours This position requires employees to work in an ARRO office on a regular basis.
