THE POSITION
This position is available for the start of the school year 2026-2027. It is a full-time position at the Granby Junior/Senior High School.
QUALIFICATION
Licensed in English 5-8, 9-12, or 5-12 in the State of Massachusetts. Excellent references. Granby Junior/Senior High School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated teacher who is passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of students of all abilities. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, student-centered, and committed to fostering a safe, caring, and academically rigorous learning environment..

Job Goals:
To develop in each student skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to effective communication and literate citizenship; to develop appreciation of quality texts of all types; to motivate students to read widely for information and recreation; to develop standards for critical judgment of written and oral communications transmitted by today's media; and to discover and develop special talents of students in the field of English in accordance with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
Supervision:
Reports to the Building Principal.
Education, Work Experience, and Licensure:
Required:
Department of Education Licensure as a Teacher of English. Acceptable C.O.R.I. report as determined by the Superintendent.
Preferred:
Prior work experience as an English Teacher. Competency in use of current related educational technology.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Teaches content and skills in English language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism to secondary students, utilizing the course of study adopted by the School Committee that is in full alignment with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Instructs students in subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school.
  • Adapts English material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
  • Selects and requisitions books and instructional material appropriate to the interest and maturity level of students; maintains required inventory records.
  • Adjusts the curriculum to provide individual and small group instruction that meets the needs of the individual student.
  • Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions based on a variety of mass media and classical and contemporary literature.
  • Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas orally and in writing.
  • Regularly evaluates each student's progress in English skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive, safe classroom environment.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members and caregivers in assessing and helping students meet identified challenges.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Administers or monitors group assessments (MCAS, IXL benchmarks).
  • Participates in curriculum development, professional learning, and other school and district priorities.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Maintains professional competence through professional learning provided by the school and in self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and timely records as required by law, school policy and administrative procedures.
  • Acts as a Mandated Reporter (Chapter 119, Section 51A).
  • Complies with the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Policy.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the Principal or Superintendent in compliance with the teachers; collective bargaining agreement.
