Electronic (Using your CalCareer Account) Job Description and Duties The Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), Northern Region has an exciting opportunity for an independent and highly motivated Environmental Scientist to work within the Inland Fisheries Program. Under close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) incumbent conducts adult anadromous salmonid monitoring in support of the Northern Region's Central Valley Salmonid Resource Assessment and Monitoring Programs. Responsibilities of the Environmental Scientist include conducting adult escapement surveys throughout the Upper Sacramento River Basin, monitor shallow redds on the mainstem Sacramento River and other scientific investigations focused on anadromous salmonids in the Central Valley. Incumbent is responsible for conducting anadromous fisheries monitoring, directing field crews, maintaining electronic databases, and preparing reports and other documentation related to the management of Central Valley anadromous salmonids. Performance of specified duties requires in-depth knowledge of Department policies, scientific methods, and applicable environmental laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must either be transfer eligible or take and pass the following exam.

Environmental Scientist You will find additional information about the job in the . Working Conditions Ability to use a computer and a suite of various software necessary for population analysis. Ability to operate 4-wheel-drive vehicles, a variety of boats, and all-terrain vehicles. The ability to operate 4-wheel drive vehicles off-road is required. Use of a state-owned vehicle for travel is required between remote facilities and field sites where public transportation is not readily available. Must be able to work in remote field conditions and lift up to 40 pounds repeatedly throughout the day and hike long distances. Work in and near swift water. Willingness to work irregular hours including weekends and holidays and to travel in performing field work in the region and throughout the State as needed. Incumbent will be required to always wear a prescribed CDFW uniform when conducting field work or interacting with the public.
