Environmental Services Equipment Operator III Salary $16.85 - $26.12 Hourly Job Type Full-Time Job Number 202500046 Department Environmental Services Description Responsible for work in the operation of landfill equipment and the operation of the landfill for use by the general public in disposing of waste. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Environmental Services Director. Essential Job Functions 1. Operate equipment used at landfill for proper disposal of waste, such as compactor, loader, dozer, and scraper. 2. Operate semi-tanker to transport liquids from landfill. 3. Performs daily safety inspections of equipment prior to and after use; perform routine service and maintenance. 4. Perform necessary tasks to maintain an orderly environment around the working face of the hill, scrap-metal pile, waste tires, household hazardous waste facility, and the entire landfill property. 5. Load materials for landfill and recycling departments, as needed. 6. Transport materials for recycling department as needed. 7. Operate equipment located in recycling department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, limitations, and safety precautions of landfill equipment.
• Ability to assist in making general repairs of landfill equipment.
• Ability to obtain necessary information and to complete accurate reports and daily time sheets.
• Ability to operate equipment over rough terrain and to perform manual labor occasionally under adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Skill in the operation of landfill equipment.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to read and follow engineer's plans and drawings.
• Knowledge of traffic laws and other regulations governing the operation of vehicles on highways.

Education and Experience High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of equipment used at the landfill or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Special Qualifications:

Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License, Class A with tanker endorsement. Ability to obtain a Sanitary Landfill Operator's Certificate.
