- $28.75), but will also serve intermittently as a Solid Waste Technician (Grade B14: $24.69

Please note:
The incumbent will be working primarily out of the Virginia, MN Regional Landfill and occasionally the Hibbing Transfer Station on Saturdays but may also be required to fill in at other county solid waste facilities as needed. This position is part of the Civil Service Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME. St. Louis County does not participate in E-Verify. All employees must be continuously authorized to work in the United States, for St. Louis County, on a full-time basis. St. Louis County does not provide sponsorship for employment visas.Distinguishing Features of Work Environmental Services Worker II:
An employee in this class performs advanced level maintenance and customer service tasks at a county solid waste facility. Duties include monitoring operations of independent solid waste contractors, leading and coordinating the work of assigned staff, screening solid waste brought to disposal sites, collecting applicable tipping fees, maintaining site operating records, directing the public to appropriate disposal units/sites, and ensuring that disposal site is operational. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.Solid Waste Technician:
An employee in this class is responsible for service operations and routine maintenance and inspection functions at assigned County solid waste management facilities.Duties assigned include:
maintain daily staffing at disposal sites, direct and coordinate site operations, perform routine site maintenance and repair projects, monitor contractor activities, and perform facility and waste materials inspections. Under the general direction of Solid Waste department supervisory staff, work is performed in accordance with established solid waste disposal policies and procedures. Work Environment These work environment factors are general in nature and may vary depending on the specific position being filled.CONSTANT

(Pass/Fail): Two years of full-time paid experience as a licensed solid waste facility attendant; OR three years of full-time paid experience in maintenance, customer service, or a related field; OR successful completion of at least 28 credits from an accredited college or university in environmental science, chemistry, or related coursework; OR equivalent training and experience as determined by the Human Resources Director. Possession of a standard passenger vehicle driver's license. May be required to obtain a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License with a Hazardous Materials Endorsement within six months of appointment.Please Note:
Following appointment to a position in this job class, an employee must successfully obtain MPCA Type III Waste Disposal Certification, as well as complete the OSHA Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) training, before being certified as a permanent employee. Failure to successfully obtain the MPCA Type III Waste Disposal Certification and complete theOSHA HAZMAT
training during the probationary period will result in termination from the position. An employee may also be required to obtain an MPCA Type II Certification if necessitated by position assignments before being certified as a permanent employee.RATING SYSTEM
