Facilities Construction Specialist - Painter Salary $26.09 Hourly Location Lauderhill, FL Job Type Part-Time Job Number 2026-0511 Department Construction and Capital Projects Department Division 313: Facilities Maintenance Opening Date 05/11/2026 Closing Date 5/31/2026 11:59 PM Eastern Description Benefits Questions General Statement of Job The purpose of this position is to perform skilled, semi-skilled, and technical work in the construction, maintenance, repair, and renovation of City facilities and related infrastructure, under the general supervision of the Assistant Facilities Manager or designee. Work involves a variety of building-trade functions, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and general construction, to ensure City buildings, systems, and equipment remain safe, functional, and in optimal operating condition. Employees in this classification perform work independently or as part of a team, interpret technical drawings and work orders, troubleshoot facility issues, and complete assignments in accordance with applicable codes, safety standards, and City procedures. The position requires strong trade knowledge, versatility, and the ability to coordinate tasks with other departments and contractors. Essential Functions The following knowledge, skills, and abilities, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this position. They are not listed in any order of importance. Other duties may be required and assigned. Responds to assigned work orders, service requests, and project tasks; evaluates the scope of work and completes assignments in a timely and professional manner. Utilizes the City's computerized work order and asset management system to receive tasks, document progress, track materials, upload photos, and close out work orders upon completion. Performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work across multiple trades including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and facilities construction. Conducts routine and preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment, and structural components to ensure ongoing safety, functionality, and compliance with applicable standards. Troubleshoots building system issues; identifies root causes; and performs corrective repairs or recommends appropriate solutions. Reads, interprets, and works from blueprints, diagrams, technical manuals, sketches, specifications, and written or verbal instructions. Operates a variety of hand tools, power tools, testing devices, and construction equipment safely and in accordance with established procedures. Estimates labor, materials, supplies, and equipment needed to complete assigned tasks; reports shortages or procurement needs to supervisors. Maintains accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on each assignment. Ensures worksites are clean, safe, organized, and secure during and after maintenance or construction activities. Adheres to City safety protocols and industry best practices while performing tasks involving ladders, lifts, confined spaces, energized systems, and hazardous materials. Coordinates with supervisors, contractors, vendors, and other City departments to support facility projects, inspections, upgrades, and repairs. Provides customer service and communicates effectively with City staff, contractors, and members of the public regarding work status and facility needs. Assists in responding to facility-related emergencies, after-hours issues, or urgent repairs as needed. Maintains assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment in clean and safe working order. Participates in special projects, renovations, upgrades, and capital improvements as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned. Employees assigned to Painter duties will be responsible for the following functions: Prepares interior and exterior surfaces for painting, including sanding, patching, scraping, pressure washing, and priming. Performs skilled painting of buildings, offices, structures, equipment, and other City facilities using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment. Matches, mixes, and applies a variety of paints, coatings, varnishes, and sealants appropriate for surfaces and environmental conditions. Repairs and prepares drywall, stucco, and other surfaces prior to paint application. Safely sets up and works from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and other elevated equipment. Maintains painting supplies, equipment, and records of color codes for City facilities. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications High School Diploma or valid equivalent; AND Ten (10) years painting experience; AND Valid State of Florida Class E Driver License; AND Must obtain State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver License within one year of hire. If no applicants meet the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education, training, experience, and preferred qualifications may be considered.
