Family Law Paralegal

Bennett & West PLLC, a respected law firm located in King, NC, is currently seeking an experienced Paralegal to support our Family Law and Traffic/Criminal Law practice areas. This is a great opportunity for a versatile paralegal who enjoys a varied caseload and working directly with clients in sensitive and fast-paced matters. The ideal candidate will assist attorneys in handling family law cases (divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, equitable distribution) as well as traffic citations and criminal defense matters. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and draft legal documents for family law cases, including complaints, answers, motions, affidavits, discovery requests, and court orders Assist with traffic and criminal cases by preparing various filings and monitoring court dates Organize and maintain client files, both physical and electronic Communicate with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and other parties via phone, email, and in person Schedule court hearings, depositions, and client meetings Conduct client intake interviews and gather necessary documentation Perform legal research and assist with trial preparation File documents with the Surry and Stokes County courts Track deadlines and manage case calendars

Qualifications:

Minimum 2-3 years of paralegal experience, preferably in family law and/or criminal/traffic law Familiarity with North Carolina General Statutes related to family law and criminal/traffic matters Experience with North Carolina court e-filing systems (e.g., File & Serve) Excellent written and verbal communication skills High level of professionalism, empathy, and discretion when dealing with sensitive family matters Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) North Carolina Certified Paralegal standing or Associate's/Bachelor's degree in paralegal studies preferred North Carolina Notary Public preferred (or willingness to become one)
