This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found. Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a qualified Feedyard Cattle Manager for a progressive Nebraska cattle operation. This expanding cattle operation consists of new Feedyard and Backgrounding operation. The finishing yard is a new, state-of-the-art facility featuring modern hospital and processing systems, with continued expansion planned, including a new feed mill in the near future. This operation is in a growth phase and is restructuring management responsibilities to improve efficiency, employee oversight, and long-term scalability.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Feedyard Cattle Manager will be responsible for the leadership, direction, and performance of cattle operations within the feedlot, with a strong focus on animal health, welfare, and operational efficiency. This is a hands-on, working manager role overseeing daily cattle operations, including receiving, health management, processing, and shipping. The individual will work closely with upper management, veterinary teams, and department leads to ensure cattle performance, regulatory compliance, and efficient workflow across both yard locations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee and manage daily feedlot operations, including cattle receiving, feeding coordination, health protocols, and shipping Manage logistics of cattle receiving and shipping, ensuring proper documentation, animal welfare standards, and coordination with buyers, transporters, and regulatory agencies Communicate closely with the feed department to ensure accurate and timely feed delivery Maintain accurate records using company software for animal health treatments, inventory, and shipping Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, buyers (such as Cargill and JBS), and agricultural vendors Work closely with veterinary teams and hospital staff to ensure proper diagnosis, treatment, and cattle health outcomes Oversee all aspects of animal health programs, including hospital operations and daily health checks Supervise and coordinate activities of pen riders, processing crews, and hospital technicians Monitor hospital operations to ensure timely and effective care Oversee company livestock resources, including company-owned horses, ensuring proper care and usage Demonstrate a hands-on leadership approach, working alongside crews and leading by example Provide training, direction, and performance feedback to team members Approve timecards and manage employee scheduling and time-off requests Coordinate logistics and communication with cattle buyers and industry partners Perform additional duties as needed to support overall operation success
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Ag Business, or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered) Minimum 5+ years of feedlot or livestock management experience required Strong background in animal health, cattle handling, and feedlot operations Previous leadership or supervisory experience required Experience managing crews of 10-15 employees Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred due to workforce structure BQA Certification preferred or willingness to obtain Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills Proficient with computers and ability to learn company software and recordkeeping systems Ability to work long hours during peak seasons and maintain a strong work ethic
