Job Summary The Field Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heavy construction equipment in a mobile field environment. This role requires strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic expertise, along with the ability to work independently and efficiently to minimize equipment downtime. This position may be filled at the Field Mechanic I, II, or III level based on the candidate's experience, technical expertise, certifications, demonstrated competencies, and alignment with company values. Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on heavy equipment including engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and other components
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturer recommendations
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues in the field to minimize downtime and ensure safe operation
  • Plan and prioritize work assignments while managing time, materials, and job costs effectively
  • Collaborate with shop management to schedule work, source parts, and determine repair approaches
  • Document inspections, repairs, and work orders accurately using fleet management tools and software
  • Utilize manuals, schematics, and digital tools to support troubleshooting and repairs
  • Maintain communication with project teams regarding equipment status, availability, and repair timelines
  • Ensure work areas and job sites are clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards
  • Participate in team meetings, safety initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL-A and DOT medical certificate preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with heavy construction equipment (e.g., excavators, dozers, forklifts, manlifts)
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage workload, and maintain high productivity
  • Strong communication, customer service, and teamwork skills
  • Proficiency with computers and repair/diagnostic software
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and working in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to work at heights and in active construction environments

Pay:
$35.00 - $55.00 per hour
