Job Title:
Field Service Technician Job Description The Field Service Technician provides on-site service and maintenance for boiler systems and related equipment, working both independently and as part of a collaborative team. This role does not require prior field experience, as comprehensive on-the-job training is provided. The technician follows direction from the Area or Service Manager to deliver high-quality service, ensure safe operation of equipment, and support customers with reliable mechanical and electrical solutions. Responsibilities Provide on-site service to customers as directed by the Area or Service Manager, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. Perform annual maintenance on boiler systems, including inspection, cleaning, and adjustment of boilers, feed and deaerator (DA) tanks, and ancillary equipment to ensure optimal performance. Install, repair, and maintain piping systems associated with boiler and related equipment, following mechanical drawings and applicable standards. Install, inspect, and repair wiring for equipment and control systems, working from electrical prints and schematics. Inspect, maintain, and repair refractory materials in boilers and related equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Service and install pumps used in boiler and support systems, including troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues. Perform control and burner upgrades, including installation, calibration, and testing of components to improve system performance and efficiency. Carry out general repair and maintenance tasks on mechanical and electrical systems as needed to support customer operations. Maintain all required safety training, including internal safety programs and customer-specific safety requirements, and consistently follow all safety procedures. Maintain required certifications such as ASOPE, NIULPE, and OSHA, completing renewals and additional training as needed. Use mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills to diagnose issues in the field and implement effective solutions. Document work performed using smartphone or tablet applications, including service reports, maintenance records, and parts usage. Communicate professionally with customers on-site, explaining work performed and any recommendations for further service or maintenance. Essential Skills Mechanical experience with the ability to work on boilers, pumps, piping, and related equipment. Electrical experience with the ability to work on wiring, controls, and burner systems. Ability to read, understand, and work from mechanical prints, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics. Proficiency in using a smartphone and/or tablet for documentation, communication, and accessing technical information. Mechanical troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues with equipment and systems. Electrical troubleshooting skills to diagnose and repair wiring, controls, and related components. Commitment to maintaining required safety training, including internal and customer safety programs. Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain certifications such as ASOPE, NIULPE, and OSHA. Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with others. Willingness to work in confined spaces, including entering boilers when required, while following all safety protocols. Reliability to participate in an on-call rotation, including weekend availability as scheduled. Additional Skills & Qualifications Mechanical and/or electrical experience gained through education, training, or hands-on experience. Interest in learning boiler systems, controls, and related technologies through structured on-the-job training. Comfort working with functional boilers and live equipment in a controlled training environment. Ability to adapt to different customer sites and follow site-specific safety and operational procedures. Strong attention to detail when following mechanical and electrical prints and schematics. Effective communication skills to interact with customers, supervisors, and team members. Motivation to maintain and grow professional certifications such as ASOPE, NIULPE, and OSHA. The position involves working in confined spaces, including entering boilers when required, while adhering strictly to safety procedures. You will travel locally and return home each night, supporting a stable daily routine. Standard hours are approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with participation in an on-call rotation of one weekend every three weeks once you are working independently; weekend on-call work is compensated at an enhanced rate. You will regularly use smartphones or tablets, mechanical tools, and electrical test equipment as part of your daily work. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Menomonee Falls, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $72800.00/yr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
