Smith's Tax Solutions / STS Accounting Group is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Part-Time Junior Accountant to join our Center Star office. This position is ideal for an accounting student, recent graduate, or someone early in their accounting career who wants hands-on experience in a public accounting and tax environment. We are willing to work around a college class schedule for the right candidate. Responsibilities The Junior Accountant will assist with a variety of accounting and tax-related work, including: Perform monthly bookkeeping and accounting for business clients Reconcile bank and credit card accounts Prepare and post journal entries Assist with month-end and year-end accounting cleanup Review general ledger activity for accuracy and unusual transactions Assist with preparation of financial statements and internal reports Assist with payroll processing and payroll-related reporting Assist with sales tax preparation and filings Organize and review client accounting records Communicate with clients regarding missing documents or accounting information Assist with individual and business tax return preparation based on experience and training Maintain accurate client files and documentation Support accountants and tax professionals with special projects as needed Protect the confidentiality of all client and firm information Qualifications Required Currently pursuing or have completed coursework or a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Strong attention to detail and accuracy Comfortable working with numbers and financial information Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines Professional written and verbal communication skills Comfortable learning new software and technology Dependable and able to work independently once trained Ability to maintain strict confidentiality Preferred, But Not Required Previous bookkeeping or accounting experience Previous tax preparation experience Experience with accounting, payroll, or tax software Experience with Microsoft Excel Previous experience working in a professional office environment Prior experience is helpful, but we are willing to train the right person. We are primarily looking for someone with a strong accounting foundation, a willingness to learn, and an interest in developing practical accounting and tax experience. Schedule This is a part-time, in-office position based primarily at our Center Star office in Killen, Alabama. We are willing to work around college class schedules. Exact days and hours will be determined based on the candidate's availability and the needs of the firm. Additional hours may be available during tax season. Compensation $15.00-18.00 per hour Compensation and responsibilities may be reviewed as the employee gains experience, demonstrates proficiency, and takes on additional responsibilities.
