JOB SUMMARY
Prepare tax schedules and reports for state and city sales, lease/rental inventories, personal property, real estate, hazardous waste, environmental quality, and fuel taxes. Assist in the preparation of tax schedules for Federal, Arizona, and California income tax returns. Constantly review, monitor, and make recommendations for internal control improvement. Act as liaison for tax consulting and advice for all Empire departments. Approve all Sales for Tax compliance. Monitor all EMPIRE and subsidiaries government required reports and licenses. Assist Tax Manager to minimize Empire's liability during audits by governmental agencies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepare corporate and partnership sales tax reports. Review all customer tax exemption applications. Declare all properties owned by Empire to appropriate counties. Coordinate and implement all tax law changes with outside property tax consultants. Ensure tax law changes are implemented in reporting procedures including branch store transactions and manual billings. Manage Like-Kind Exchange (LKE) program. Responsible for day-to-day management of Empire's Like-Kind Exchange tax deferral program; including payment application, electronic uploads of sales and machine inventory additions and complicated reconciliations of the machine inventory and tax deferral balances. Prepare monthly and quarterly Empire Transport (ETCO) fuel and motor carrier tax schedules for all applicable states. Maintain and coordinate ETCO licensing with outside consultant. Administer and maintain Purchase Card (P-Card) program. Prepare all, annual 1099 filings and corresponding reports including accounts payable and interest. Work safely at all times. Adhere to all applicable safety policies. Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain the tax reference library. Communicate applicable tax law changes to the appropriate Empire personnel. Assist in the preparation of all schedules and information needed for EMPIRE and subsidiaries' Federal and State Income Tax returns. Assist sales personnel to resolve customer tax issue concerns. Provide written determinations to customers after consulting with applicable governmental agency. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Work within and promote corporate values.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills adequate to explain findings to management. Must be able to analyze financial and operational systems using accepted auditing techniques such as flow charting, and quantitative methods. Must have knowledge of internal computer systems and software, including financial software. Must have extensive knowledge and experience using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software program. Ability to maintain consistent attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Four years of college level accounting education or equivalent work experience. Two or more years of tax and/or accounting experience. Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
