Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a long-term contract opportunity in Phoenix, Arizona. This role is suited to someone who can maintain accurate financial records, contribute to tax-related reporting, and ensure the integrity of general ledger activity. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals and can work independently while collaborating with internal stakeholders to meet reporting deadlines.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post journal entries to keep financial records accurate and up to date.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies to support clean month-end reporting.
• Assist with corporate tax activities, including gathering documentation and supporting tax return preparation.
• Manage sales tax processes by reviewing transactions, maintaining supporting records, and helping ensure timely filings.
• Analyze accounting data and provide clear documentation to support audits, compliance reviews, and internal controls.
• Support periodic close activities by verifying balances, organizing schedules, and resolving outstanding items.
• Partner with finance and business teams to clarify account activity and improve reporting accuracy. Requirements
• Experience working in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting position.
• Knowledge of general ledger accounting and journal entry preparation.
• Familiarity with corporate tax concepts and support for corporate tax return processes.
• Working experience with sales tax reporting and related reconciliations.
• Ability to review financial data carefully and identify inconsistencies or errors.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines in a contract environment.
• Proficiency with standard accounting systems and spreadsheet-based analysis.
