Description Our client is seeking a Temporary Senior Accountant for a 3-month contract to support accounting operations within a fast-paced homebuilding environment. This role will focus on job cost accounting, construction accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, and inventory/land development accounting. The ideal candidate will have strong general ledger experience and a background in homebuilding or construction accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

Job Cost & Construction Accounting

+ Maintain and reconcile job cost ledgers by community, phase, lot, and cost code.

+ Analyze budget-to-actual variances and communicate findings to project and operations teams.

+ Process and reconcile construction draws, retention schedules, and lien waiver documentation.

+ Review subcontractor invoices, change orders, and commitments for accuracy and proper coding.

+ Support project managers with cost tracking and reporting. Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

+ Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.

+ Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.

+ Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for management reporting.

+ Record home closings, including revenue recognition, cost of sales, and escrow reconciliations.

+ Assist with lender, investor, and internal reporting requirements. Inventory, Land & Development Accounting

+ Track and reconcile work-in-progress (WIP), inventory, and land development costs.

+ Calculate and apply capitalized interest, indirect costs, and warranty reserves.

+ Assist with inventory valuation and cost-to-complete analyses. Compliance & Process Improvement

+ Support external audits, tax filings, and lender compliance requirements.

+ Assist with sales tax, use tax, and 1099 reporting.

+ Strengthen accounting processes, documentation, and internal controls.

+ Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff as needed. Requirements

+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. + 5+ years of progressive accounting experience. + 2+ years of experience within residential homebuilding, construction, or real estate development.

+ Strong knowledge of GAAP, job cost accounting, WIP schedules, retention accounting, and construction accounting principles.

+ Experience with construction or homebuilding ERP systems such as Yardi, Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint/Vista, Foundation, BuilderMT, NX, or similar.

+ Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, and account reconciliations.

+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

+ Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, superintendents, and non-accounting stakeholders.
